Behind owlish glasses, a twinkle comes into the eyes of the man with the white beard and floppy hat, wearing a "Pie Town, New Mexico" T-shirt. "If I had known any of this would happen," he says, patting the pile of books beside him like an adoring father, "I wouldn't have adopted a funny name." Uncle River in Mogollon with his 1963 Ford truck.
