DILLON, MONT., The lightning-caused Sand Basin Fire burning 23 miles southwest of Philipsburg grew to 180 acres with recent increased temperatures and lower humidity.

The Sand Basin Fire started by lightning on Aug. 22. It has burned about 33 acres in the Sapphires Wilderness Study area 23 miles southwest of Philipsburg, MT.

A lightning-caused fire has burned about 15 acres west of Philipsburg. The Sand Basin Fire is located about two miles from the Sand Basin Road and 25 miles west of Philipsburg in the roadless Sapphires Wilderness Study Area, according to a news release from the Dillon Interagency Dispatch Center.
