Heavy overnight fog and a solid rain Thursday relieved an extremely high fire danger in Washington County, giving forest rangers a break after two weeks of wildfires, grass fires and out-of-control burns.

Doug Rich of Hampden heads up a team of amateur astronomers who earlier this month discovered an exploding star within a galaxy that is 420 million light years from Earth.

A Passamaquoddy Tribal Council member said tribal officials found "common ground" with two lawmakers and the state's Marine Resources commissioner during a meeting Wednesday morning.

Passamaquoddy leaders are decrying what one official called an "extreme show of force" by Marine Patrol, which last night confiscated three elver nets from tribal members at the Pennamaquan River.
