Five retail firms vying for city contract
When exactly councilmen will decide on which firm to offer a contract remains unknown, but Ward 3 Councilman Charlie Box said he hopes the vote comes "sooner than later." "I hope we can get to this pretty quick," said Box, who in August led an effort to divert $100,000 the city had paid the Golden Triangle Development LINK for a decade for economic development services to the professional services fund -- some of which will be used to hire a firm specifically to pursue retail development.

What we need is companies that export around the world not retail. Retail is dead due to the wold wide web that has anything anyone could want. The local retail business costs more and does not have the special products I want. Especially clothes and shoes. How about a circuit board for a computer monitor? The money would be better spent in helping creative people develop new products that could be manufactured here.
The concept of supporting government from sales taxes is obsolete. How about taxing them on net worth?

I think the council should invest its own personal money in the airport and new bus service. If they’re really honest, let them put their money where our tax paid continental brunch money goes.
