The boat was an Eliminator high speed boat, likely a catamaran style hull.

We spend a lot of time up there and have seen many near accidents with these high speed boats.

If they get just the right amount of air under the front, they can flip over as I suspect this one did.

Professionals that drive these high powered machines are on and off the throttle to manage this issue. I suspect this one just got away from him.

I struggle to understand why no life jackets were worn by his family, especially in such a high speed craft, let alone any watercraft.

Truly a tragedy for their family and loved ones.

It was mechanical failure that caused this accident. The owner had just bought the boat, had problems getting it to plane out, and took it in for repairs. When he got it back from the repair shop, he took it out for the second time and that is when the accident happened. It planed out ok so they took it for a ride, there was a loud popping noise and the boat went end over end.

We had heard windy and choppy conditions combined with crossing another boat's residual wake had sent the nose upward catching air and flipping over.

Hadn't heard about mechanical issues. Did you know the family?

Again, condolences to the family.

Just saw the recent updates that weather had been ruled out and mechanical is primary theory.

My husband used to work for the company the family owns. We moved from Denver a couple years ago. His friend that is close to the family called him with the tragic news and said that there had been problems with the boat. They thought it was resolved by repairs done by a mechanic, but when they took it out on the lake again, the accident happened. So no, it was not driver error or weather conditions, it was mechanical. No, I didn't know them personally. I only met them a couple times in passing. But my husband worked for them for many years and has many fond memories and has always told me how great of a family they are.

They are personal friends and a very wonderful family! Tragically they have lost so much in a father, husband, and a great friend. We always want an answer but sometimes accidents happen. This accident was just that, not a high speed crash, not human error but a horrible accident that has left a large number of friends and family with a horrible whole in their hearts!
