Turn 3 Sports Bar: For ambience, killer music bar is the best place to turn
The band on a recent Saturday joked that, 'We're the best band east of 441 and north of Hillsboro Boulevard.' They're off by miles. With wit to match their modesty, and instrumental dexterity to boot, Painkiller dished out plenty of pleasure.
A quintet on guitars, drums, keyboard and sax, the local act used searing guitar on Led Zep and Hendrix covers, demonstrated smooth, wailing sax on Low Rider and strong, pleasing vocals on Johnny Cash or the Stones. Turn 3 varies its bands, but Painkiller is a regular here and at other South Florida bars.

Former employee vies for Palm Beach County clerk's job
When it comes to the public office that invests Palm Beach County 's money, pays its bills and manages court records, voters have a choice between a political newcomer eager to mend fences and a four-year incumbent with a reputation for tearing them down.
On Aug. 26, County Clerk Sharon Bock faces a challenge from fellow Democrat and former Clerk's office recruiter Bridget O'Connor.
The clerk, whose salary is $153,000, manages 825 employees and a $69 million budget. Though it may be a little-known constitutional office, it carries major financial authority and auditing responsibilities. Bock, 55, is a Palm Beach Shores lawyer and former investment adviser who came to the job in 2004 after a stint as deputy clerk. She has an intense persona and aggressive style that has ruffled feathers across county government. But she enjoys bragging rights for modernizing the post and also saving the county millions in potential investment losses during a state financial crisis last year.
