Ex-Berea officer acquitted of official misconduct on appeal

A judge overturned a misdemeanor official misconduct charge and a $1 fine against a former Berea police lieutenant.
Billy Beavers, 42, of Paint Lick, had been charged with not completing a 'use of force report' after a police chase of a suspected drunken driver last July.
On Jan. 17, a Madison County District jury ruled that Beavers should pay a $1 fine for second-degree official misconduct.
But in a ruling March 6, Senior Judge Michael W. Harrod acquitted Beavers of official misconduct, saying the court erred in overruling Beavers' motion for directed verdict during his trial. Read more

Boy, 15, injured when bicycle hits school bus

A 15-year-old boy was critically injured in Eastern Garrard County on Friday when his bicycle hit a school bus.
The bus was traveling west on Walker Pike through the intersection of Good Hope Road about 4:30 p.m. The boy was turning from Good Hope Road onto Walker Pike when his bicycle hit the bus near the back of the vehicle on the driver's side, Kentucky State Police said.
Neighbors identified the boy as Charlie Snapp of Paint Lick. He was treated on scene and then flown to the University of Kentucky Hospital. He was listed in critical condition Friday night. Read more
