If Blytheville did the same, imagine how they would mess it up worse than it is.
maybe we could split this county in half and eliminate all the north/south problems?????
Leave Mississippi County for north, have new County of Osceola for south? |
I wish they had taken it before running Baptist away and would have let Baptist build a new hospital. Those foolish people brought Ameris as rescuers for the county hospitals and look whats happened since then. Some of these politicians in Osceola are just delusional and outright Evil
It is a great idea and just what is needed. They have found someone with experience in rescueing financially endangered hospitals and he believes this one can be saved as well with proper management. |
give it to them
I hope it is not a rescuer like Ameris was or QHR is who has already taken more than $1 Million into their pockets legally and created a debt hole for the county like no one else ever has. Still people in this county continue to support these QHR people thinking they are the saviors. |
i hope they do keep the hospital open, mainly for the ones that need it.
No. It's much more important to keep hospitals open for those that don't need it. Doh! |

Okay, does EVERYONE realize that if the two facilities are allowed to seperate and the city of Osceola takes responsibility for SMC that at the end of 6 to 7 months if SMC has not shown it can be viable the facility will CLOSE.... CLOSE.... Not ask the county for a bail-out but CLOSE... Then everyone out there bad mouthing the SMC hospital, SMC staff and SMC physicians can say "I told you so"!!!!!
They think they can make it work, let them at least try. What has either hospital to show for all the money the county is giving QHR?
The Quorum Court is coming off worst than a bunch of rank amateurs who think they can run county operations simply by handing out a check to some fast-talking shyster "management" company. Reminds you of a hick town school board... |
There are not enough Dr's to provide services for both hospitals, plus 2 Dr's in town (Blytheville) will not even refer patients to the Blytheville hospital......
Too many government, medicare-medicaid, welfare and people that just don't or won't pay. Blytheville needs to get rid of the old fathers that are running the town and go forward and out of the farm town mentality "we've always done it this way". |
The paper just said today that QHR "had about 40 employees working here doing research in order to make the right decisions".
Really? 40? At what salary? What we need is a new tax to cover the cost of operating the two hospitals. As unpopular as taxes are, hospitals are not free. |
We're already paying tax for the hospital. How else could the County be handing all that money over to QHR?
I'm talking MORE taxes. I'm aware that there is already a tax. I'm talking about enough to run the hospitals. My point here is, if you don't want to pay for the hospital(s), be prepared for them to close. I hate to say it, but that's what most republicans want, a hospital without paying for it and it should be there when they need/want it. Obviously, I'm not a republican and I don't mind paying my taxes. And, I think the county should hire the people to run it, not some management company. |
More than $1 Million paid to QHR (the management company) for doing nothing but mounting losses and getting things worse. Not to include Millions of Tax money (including $4 million that was saved for rainy day fund in Hospital tax collected over years).
Still the county agrees to extend 1 year contract with them and pay their outrageous fees with no strings attached to accountability or stemming of the losses. Yes, they are really smart - but only to their pockets, not to the people of this county. |

According to the Courier News, there will be a meeting of the Mississippi County Hospital System Strategic Planning Committee today at 6 PM in the GRMC dining room.
What/who is this committee and its purpose? I am guessing it is open to the public because it was in the paper. At the Blytheville Chili Cook-off, Ed Harshman(?) was passing out a lot of detailed information covering what has happened with the two hospitals over the years. I'm hoping everyone will pay attention to what COULD HAPPEN if SOMEONE doesn't get this mess straightened out - AND QUICK. |
Maybe they will all be at that meeting and we can see what we're getting for our money. Screw the more taxes stuff and give the people of this county what they're already paying for. Quit buying into that so-called "we're losing money" crap. Anyone with a lick of sense knows they bill for stuff way over what they know they will get from insurance, be it Medicare, Medicaid, Blue Cross or whatever and are glad to get it so where's the loss, other than messed up billing? BTW, isn't the same bunch that handled it for Ameris still doing it? |
That's why I said the county should hire people and run it themselves.
There are qualified hospital administrators out there. Sometimes, I think a hired President/CEO working with an all volunteer board of directors, leaving the department heads as is (unless they need to be replaced) and everybody answer to the volunteer board. It seems that people who earn money, and not working for the good of the community, don't do a very good job. But, that just may be a matter of not hiring the right people. Maybe they should promote from within? Are there qualified people working there who could run it? People who work there often love the place. People hired from outside just come for the money. |
The losses are often from the uninsured. But, you're probably one of them that doesn't want a universal health plan, too, right? Would you rather have a little more taxes and have it run right or have it go under, leaving the area without? First, it's scary to think that this hospital is your only choice, but it's scarier to think that there will be no hospital at all. It's probably more expensive to operate a hospital than you think. People and equipment has to be there whether they are being used or not and it's only bringing in money when it's being used. But, unwarranted tests aren't really the answer. Point blank: If you want it available when you need it, you're going to have to pay for it when you don't .... through taxes. |
Dont really think your logic is 100% right. You portray as if the hospitals have to run in loss no matter what and the taxes have to be raised no matter what. The fact is we have had and have totally INCOMPETENT people sitting in management who only want to be paid $135,000 a month no matter what happens to the hospital or the losses. THAT needs to change first and then we need to talk about more taxes and more money. Otherwise it is an ENDLESS Hole with these morons looting the city and county. All they do is strategic meetings. What have those meetings turned into for the last 8 months they have been here - NOTHING but more money in their pocket and millions in losses for people. |
