ALTON a ' A northern Kansas firefighter has died, apparently succumbing to the heat while battling a house fire.

"Our View from Here," an exhibition of work from the North Central Kansas Art Association and curated by Jan Schoen, president of the association, will open with an artists' reception 2 to 4 p.m. today at Deines Cultural Center, 820 N. Main, Russell.

A jury has returned a guilty verdict in the trial of a man accused of killing a North Central Kansas farmer.

Both the prosecution and the defense concluded their cases Monday, bringing to a close the witness testimony phase of the trial against Kenneth Eugene Wilson, who is charged in the March 2008 slaying of Portis resident Jeffery Scott Noel.

The countdown to the Kenneth Wilson murder trial in Osborne County District Court has reached its final 24 hours as official proceedings are scheduled to begin Monday.

"At this time we don't feel the rumors are credible," Superintendent Keith Hall said Tuesday morning.
