Last July, the city received a letter from Miner's Alley Brewing Company owners Connie Parks and Steve Vandervort seeking to purchase the city owned lot, which is currently a bus stop and turnaround.

Investigations show Butte County sheriff's deputy who kicked man during arrest used reasonable force

OROVILLE >> A Butte County sheriff's deputy has been cleared to return to duty today after being investigated for kicking a subject during an arrest Aug. 26. Deputy Sam Burnett had been placed on desk duty after a video posted to Facebook on the day of the incident showed the officer kicking toward the head of defendant Terry Lee Collins, 56, after the defendant had seated himself on the ground across the street from the Southside Mini Mart in south Oroville. The video caused a public outcry, but District Attorney Mike Ramsey said today the video took events out of context as it didn't include an earlier struggle as the deputy tried to arrest the subject on an outstanding misdemeanor warrant.

Trial date to be set for man for taking Butte County sheriff's vehicle

OROVILLE >> A trial date will be set for the man charged with stealing a Butte County Sheriff's Office patrol vehicle and leading police on a 28-mile-long chase Aug. 18. Defendant Omar Medina Cazares Sr., 39, waived his right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday in Butte County Superior Court, according to defense attorney Jesus Rodriguez. Wednesday's hearing had been set to determine whether there was probable cause to hold Cazares for trial on felony counts of unlawfully taking a vehicle and evading an officer with willful disregard for public safety.
