One dead, another injured in rollover crashes near Wayland, Ionia
A Wayland man has died following a crash on icy roads. It happened just after midnight Friday on 9th Street and 142nd Avenue. via WZZM-TV Grand Rapids

What I don't understand is that with each reporting of these crashes, they go out of their way to make sure they list things like "icy conditions" and "bad weather" when in fact, I've been on some of these roads and they are just fine. Maybe a bit snow-covered, but very drivable and not at all dangerous IF YOU TAKE IT EASY on them.

I do agree with you somewhat, however i live very close to this accident, and the roads were basicaly "glazed" in ice. and these roads are always the LAST to be woked on by the county! |

The roads were very trecherous last evening, even going very slowly and cautiously. And you couldn't get any traction at all to stop/start.

The responsibility still is with the driver to drive the appropriate speed for the condition of the road surface. Whether or not the county is timely has no bearing on that. I have been driving for many years and have never slid into a ditch. But I do get passed by a lot of vehicles, some of which did end up in the ditch. By the way, I've always driven rear wheel drive vehicles and gone past many front wheel vehicles in the ditch.
