He's a witness "of the people"? You've got to be kidding. I just love attorneys. They act as if the "victim" was one of the "people" of upstanding character in the community. This is one memeber of the lower part of society being exterminated by several other members of the same lot. Look around you folks. Look at McKinleyville. Look at parts of Eureka. The communities of Humboldt County have been transformed from hard-working, law-abiding blue collar communities to crime infested druggies running around popping each other off/high speed chases. It's just a matter of time before an innocent man, woman, or child will get caught in the middle of one of these druggies actions. And still the lawyers treat them as if they're equal to the rest of us. The judicial system in Humboldt County is a joke. If's obvious the system is not working because there is zero deterrence on the part of the criminals to change their behavior for the better. And just remember: Those that get caught are only the tip of the iceberg.

Mace is lucky he got the "weakest link deal of the week". Facing a max of 6 years for a robbery/homicide? Wow. Sure hope the DA hasn't placed too much on this guys credibility. What a cast of speed freaks.

why offer the plea and six years when you should not really need this dope fiends testimony. I of course realize that his admission/testimony will solidify the case beyond a shadow of a doubt, but the case appears to be solid as is and then this ahole is back on the streets in 3.5 years. our prisons may be over-crowded but there is plenty of room for him.

Nothing like making a deal with the Devil. Just remember he always gets paid back.
A coward gets six years for helping to murder a man trying to defend himself with his bare hands in his own home. Despicable. They all knew they were going to get their butts kicked, so they yelled shoot him, and Burgess popped off a slug.
A hundred years ago in Eureka they would have hung all of these bastards. Please spare Society the future problems they will create.

Six years for an armed robbery that turned into a homicide?

Seems like he should get more than six years JUST for armed robbery- let alone that someone got KILLED.

I'm conflicted though, as the person that got killed is no loss.
you gotta be kidding

involuntary manslaughter for a man who robbed and murdered another in his own home.

This is despicable. Just despicable.

He will probably have to be placed in protective custody because of having a snitch jacket hung on him for the duration of his sentence. The athorities are in fact feeding him to the wolves with this deal.

Yes. Just place Mace in general population, let a guard leak his snitch status and the problem will be solved. Unfortunately the other guys will still be alive. Capital punishment should be reserved for only the extreme cases that are proved beyond any doubt. This is such a case. C'mon Gallegos-protect our community!

He pled to voluntary manslaughter, probably because Burgess' statement was going to be suppressed, which it was.

Daily Horoscope for January 7

Cancer

You feel the urge to move onward, powered by your wisdom: when you're right, you're right. You may feel that any further explanation is unnecessary, but the people you're dealing with might need it spelled out for them. Take the time to draw a picture or use smaller vocabulary words to get your point across, Cancer. A public demonstration will probably prove to be the last word on the subject.
