Would you live next to a Nuclear Power Plant?
What do you expect? Did you actually think that you will have a say in where new nuclear power plants will be built? In other parts of the world, citizens have no choice! Were you aware that utilities quietly increase the capacity of existing Nuclear Power Plants and build on existing sites?
Many people still fear Nuclear Power Plant failures of the past, in particular the notorious 3 Mile Island and Chernobyl. Accidents not only happen, getting rid of nuclear waste that is (hot) radioactive, still is a problem that have yet to be fully solved. This still has most people uneasy living next to a nuclear power plant. So even though utilities keep trying to convince the public everything is safe, why are they still trying to build more, while there are plenty of safer alternatives? It begs the question, would you trust someone who keeps trying to raise your electric bills with your safety too?
