OMG! I can see some of those intersections but Magnolia and Concord? Give me a break, I work over there and that is not a problem area....and Billy, you're absolutely right about Colonial and Bumby, I would have been hit twice by red light runners if I didn't hesitate before I proceed!

we had those stupid things installed here in cleveland ohio and yes, you are right that it is just the beginning. such a load if the city council is trying to pass them off as a safety meausre. they are a revenue generator and that is all. accidents are actually up here in cleveland because of the cameras and the driving habits being changed. people slamming their brakes on at yellow light, speeding up to get thru, etc. they are a load and wait until the cameras start getting at by disgruntled citizens.

I think cameras at 436 & 50 would eliminate the need for the proposed tax hike.

Add Alafaya & SR50 and Alafaya & McCullogh near UCF to the list. The city could catch a couple of red-light runners on every change of the light during the day.

At least the only ppl paying are those who just can't manage to follow the law.

Don't want to pay? Make sure you stop when the light is red. It's like the lotto tax, you don't have to pay unless you want to.

Works for me.

This is what will happen:

http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/n...

(hope the link works)

The title of that article is "Dallas' red light cameras may face changes as revenue estimate drops" the cameras worked so well they weren't getting the revenue they wanted from them. Also there are articles that red light cameras actually increase smaller accidents as people slam on brakes to stop in time.

At least Buddy is being up-front about wanting to lighten our wallets, but did you notice he said nothing about improving safety? Not a single camera on Colonial, nothing for the Sand Lake/OBT or Sand Lake/John Young intersections, or any other intersection that actually might benefit from some enforcement. It's all about the money, folks. You can bet I'll be out at these intersections checking the yellow light timings before and after, and I'm sure I'll find they shorten them to increase the ticket revenue. At least the appropriate folks at the Sentinel will be getting their windfall. God knows the Sentinel has been harping and whining for these cameras long enough in the face of their failure in localities across the country, instead of encouraging Kevin Beary to get off his overly-out-of-shape butt and get some deputies out there to enforce the law like we pay his agency a ridiculous amount of money each year to do.

Here is the problem.

If you do your research, you will discover many problems with incorrect tickets around the country. And there is no way to prove that they are incorrect.

When you receive the ticket it is days after the incident, sometimes longer, and you have no memory of the event.

Some states have been known to SHORTEN the yellow light thereby catching more "red light runners"
Some cameras have gone off inadvertently and at the wrong time, again, catching those that are actually innocent.

THERE ARE NO LEGAL CONSEQUENCES. Do you wonder why? There are no points, no opportunity to truly question the accuracy of the camera, etc. against an accuser. That is why there are no points - there is really no legal standing for the cameras! This is Orlando's way of getting around the law and any questions of legality - by imposing fines, and perhaps false fines, without the legal ramifications. If this was truly to make things safer, they would get the same due that a speeding ticket does. They do not.

Ever have a computer make a mistake? Of course A vending machine? Of course Same exact difference, except here you have to pay a huge fine for what may be their unintentional or intentional mistake.

In addition, the rate of side collisions does go down, but the rate of rear end collisions goes DRAMTICALLY up becuase people stop short at lights to make sure they do not get the photo.

This. Is. Wrong.

Does not work that way Mike, read my post above. And do some research as to the mistaken tickets, and inaccuracy of the cameras.
