Letter: Plenty of others pump Orland water

Full story: Mercury-Register

I believe Crystal Geyser should be allowed to locate in Orland and utilize up to 160 acre-feet of water annually from the Tehama aquifer.

In California there are thousands if not hundreds of thousands of wells that have been abandon some never caped while others are left as open puncture wounds in our delicate earths crust allowing for water that would normally be closer to the surface to flow deeper down. leaving the suffice to get hotter and dryer. No small matter when all added together. Of course some wells are cased yet that rusts away allowing water to drain from the upper strata as well. Most of these wells are mapped and could be filled in but who is going to pay for that.
This is going to go on as an unnoticed abuse of our natural resources for how long? Where are the colleges that are wanting grant money that could do a cost analysis of the problem?

One man, one vote. Now let's see what the rest of the valley thinks of yet another assault on our water.

One [No] vote here! And I can kick a 1000 liberal butts. If we want a company to make money off of our water let it be an American one. Isn't the won wanting to profit off of selling us our own water in plastic bottles owned by people living in Asia? Not that that matters, right?
Oh plastic bottles that could possibly end up in the dump out in the middle of the ocean. Where tons and tons of similar garbage has made its way to. Covering 100's of square miles.
Anyway what good is it to vote if we are going to be living under a socialist dictator?

When, Kent Bonney wrote to the E-R comparing water usage by the Orland-Artois water district users and Orland city water users and the proposed water use by Corporate Crystal-Geyser, he is comparing apples and oranges. Orland City and Orland-Artois water users are just that, users- residents of this area and/or users of many years' standing- mostly agriculture-related. Crystal Geyser plans to exploit Orland's water source to profit from producing water products to SELL TO THE WORLD, taking limited local water resources away FOREVER, depleting watersheds FOREVER-- watersheds/springs/drain-off from mountains- FOREVER. In my view, the local water resources, already precariously close to permanent depletion by local users ARE NOT CAPABLE OF SUPPORTING Crystal Geyser's ongoing drain. Nice try, apples and oranges! The 25 people who will get good paying jobs all vote yes as well as their families.

This will not affect groundwater levels that is a fact. Fear mongerers keep repeating the same lie that this project will make a difference. I can only think they have other motives and water is just the only excuse they can come up with as exampled by the following:

"pecariously close to permanent depletion" WHAT?
You really are clueless about geology and the aquifer aren't you?

Lets bet on how many locals might get those 25 jobs. More than likely there will be 25 new Mexican/Latino families moving in a-sap from San Jose. W ether you like it or not. Not that there is anything wrong with that, right? So your 25 can not vote in this district until they move here, OK. Who are you going to call when the well runs dry?

What are you a racist? Hispanics lived in California 100 years before the first Anglo showed up. But you are right we don't really need jobs in this area.

No I am not a raciest! I believe we are all equal and that the Apache should be set free to keep the balance. 100 years before the whites were here Hispanics didn't dare to try and cross there land. No California was never part of Mexico.

I think the point was that Crystal Geyser would use very little water. If depletion is to be a problem it will be the ag. users pumping thousands of acrefeet per year.

I dont understand how a big, multi-billion dollar corporation would be allowed to march into our valley, with the promis of 25 jobs, and have free rein with sucking 52 million gallons/yr. We all know they will drop their well, well below most other wells in the area, thus endangering their neighbors and not theirselves. Sucking our water year round, regardless of our aquarer level. If this is approved it should be up for review on a yearly basis,(no long term contracts),and assurances that if neighbors weels go dry they must cease their operation. Also, the 52 million gallons/yr. extracted should fetch, I would guess about 2 dollars/gal. profit. Thats 104 million dollars/anually. I think,(if a water plant must come) the orland city council needs to reject this matter and go into the water botteling business. Keep the money local and balance our books, not a corporation from another country. Stop the exploytation of the clear gold under our feet.

Not a bad letter at all Robert, not bad at all! It is on the Virge of suggesting Orland extort money from businesses like the Chico City Counsel and our Mayor Ann Schwab has been trying to do here with Walmart, but if that is what it take to keep that water plant out, I say go the extortion route even if it "is" immoral it is no more immoral than letting them in to do there carpetbagging pillaging. As corrupt as our nation is getting to be it is about the only avenue we have now-a-days. Fight fire with fire, lawyers getting money supports the local economy, to do they not? Sure, like why not it is like taking a lesson from the US House of Representatives. Throw the old Hail Mary!

Daily Horoscope for December 4

Aquarius

It's so easy to deceive yourself in some way today, especially if you allow wishful thinking to get the upper hand. Don't ignore some unpalatable facts, Aquarius, or the situation will be compounded. Are you trying to keep on the right side of someone you admire or respect? Does this mean presenting a false or highly selective image of yourself? I hope not.
