I find it troubling that this information they think may be useful to solve the crime by releasing it was held to be released by the sheriff on a television program. He had held several news conferences without mentioning it.

Are programs and ratings more important then doing the job? Is everyone pandering to cameras and doing reality programs these days?

It makes you feel like it is some terrible scam being played on the public.

The cops don't have a clue, they are fishing for answers like a bunch of sea cadets on summer training in a canoe.

Yes, im thinking the same thing. Why wait till now to ask? But not on tv with a news crew. No, wait for john walsh. WTF! They would have gotten better coverage if they put it on the news instead. Hell, ive got somany channels that i dont even know wich one shows AMW. Therfore i missed it.
Have to agree with another point. Not smart to let the killer know what your looking for. Just shows they are desperate. But to hold this info knowing it was going to be on the show? I was wondering what good is AMW when all the nation is watching the news on the case.
Besides. If you snatch a little girl i doubt she is going to hold on to her stuff while she fends off her abductor. Which would put her stuff in the location of her abduction. Or, she went willingly and her stuff is with the killer or where he killed her. But this fits the "kids fighting and throwing her stuff in a dumpster", even more than before. Why else would it not be found? She was dumped at one spot first befor going to another dump. Thats like a needle in a hay stach trying to find her stuff in the landfill.
Or finally, if its a serial after all then these could be his trophy's. If so then he will keep them hidden but wont destroy them. I think this is the angle they are leaning on. John walsh already thinks this is a srial related to 35 years ago. My bet is that the killer, in this case scenerio, will only smile at the tv and keep his prize hidden. But i bet they are hoping he will put them out somewhere in a panick to leave a clue.
Ok, im done.

I do not know what the sherriff should or shouldn't release but since the public is being asked to help and he waited to release this on a television program such as this seems like he is more concerned with that then he is on solving the crime. I assume he is an elected official and to think he may be wanting free publicity for upcoming election is unsavory at the least and I hope they don't compensate people who appear on the program.

These days it is hard to tell what is real and what is being preformed for the cameras.

The other thing is I know we are told serial kilers keep items but sometimes they don't so it seems like nothing is conclusive. I can't imagine anyone wanting those items except for a child. If she was grabbed and dropped them maybe some other kid picked them up? If they were thrown away you would think they would be near where they found the body. I would think addresses would be in the trash around her to help know something. I still wonder about the fight they said she had at school and what it was about and it is hard to believe that no one saw anything if it happened out on the street.

Hmmm,
I agree for once. What if his motive is just that. Then this could be some type of accident but we will never know if they are in it for the wrong reasons. It didnt make sense to me of why you would need AMW so soon when the media coverage was so strong still.
It has faded but they have pulled back waiting on the police to say something. Im not impressed.

I have been following this story since the day the poor child was missing. I work at a school and I am a mom of a five year old. Something has not set right with me and the way the police have handled the case. I had no idea it was EVEN on AMW and like I said I have been following this story EVERY DAY!! I have wanted this person to be CAUGHT, but I have been watching things like the local news channels and the internet, not AMW!?! This makes that "not right" feeling even stronger! What is up?

I too have been following this story closely, deeply saddened with the horror of it and the pain endured by this little girl and her family. I find it strange that they didn't release the description of the bags earlier, that they don't reveal the cause of death, and frankly, even the mother's tone in the news. I feel such pain for her and just find her reaction subdued, hopefully she is on meds to help ease her pain. Somer's plight is just too painful to bear.

In the case of haleigh cummings, the police also ruled out all sex offenders but to the cause that they felt the 17 year old girl friend was hiding info. But they have yet to find her.
I get a renewed creepy feeling that the mom in somers case also knows more. This whole thing stinks bad. It feels like the police are smoke screening us till we forget and move on. I would hope not though. One way or another i feel like the family holds the answer to this mystery.

Is it just me or does anyone else see what I do? When the mom is supposedly crying there are no tears. I see her wiping her eyes and face like she is crying but there is no wetness or tears there. Why is she wiping like that to make it look like she is crying? Maybe her tear ducts are dried up or she has chronic dry eye. But something just does not sit right with me about this case. I won't to believe she is sincere but for some reason I can't.

I know, im a mean ass. But i really think her fake tears carry a double standing. Some tears are real but covered by what she is hiding. I really do think that Somers bag and lunch box was in the trash before she was. And i do think it was a crule prank that had something to do with that scuffle. Why else would an older sister side with a frien and not with her sibling? Throw the stuff in the dumpster and laugh out loud and walk off while she has to climb in and get it. They get home and wait for her and when she doesnt show after a longer period than usual they call momma. Momma runs home. I would think she backtracked first befor stopping a deputy. Like to know that detail. But i do not think her boyfriend was involved. But i think someone pieced it together by tuesday and that is what led them to be chasing garbage trucks.

I have just seen it on TV. But the mother's actions and just the way she was doing tells me she knows what happened. I read somewhere that the mother said Somer would come staight home then the babysitter said she ran off all the time and the mom had gave her a list of people to call to see if she was at their house in case she ran away. It was also said that the mother and Somer butted heads quite often.
It's just so sad that all these children usually end up dead and more often than not it's at the hands of their parents. It's case after case after case. It seems they are getting away with it and it's like a domino effect of copy cat cases or similar.

Here is a copy of what the baby sitter said.
Another Interesting Article:

**snipped**
Megan Reese, 17, who has babysat Somer in the past said that she was head strong and contradicted the mother by saying that it was not anything new for Somer to run ahead of her siblings on the way home from school and that she would take anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour to make her way home; and that her mother had a list of phones numbers for her friends and would start calling the friends if she took too long to get home. The baby sitter said she never knew where Somer ran to, but she loved tree houses and swimming pools. Many times Somer would get upset as she felt the other kids picked on her and she would run away.

I really have a feeling that when the light shines in this case that momma is going to make susan smith look like a saint when it comes to puting on a show. She has had more time. I really dont think she did anything other than hide evidence and is protecting someone. But to let it go this far if that is the case. I really suspect those kids.

Instead of trying to find out what happened to Somer, why not organize "Safe At Home" places for kids to go to when they feel threatened at home. The schools need to educate children as young as five years old about abuse. Go to Joe Torre's website and read how you can help set up a safe haven and counseling for children or adults in abusive households. Also, the abusers need to recognize they have a problem and get counseling. I am not pointing a finger, but when a child is killed and nobody knows what happened to cause the death, a lot of times it happened at home.

because, if we dont find the truth about somers death then we are just as much at fault if the lack of a solution can effect the well being of the next victim. Especially there is a killer out there and not an accident.
To educate our children we must first exercise some reponsibilities as parrents. And i agree, most often it happens at home and i dont think somers case is much different really.

This is a very strange case indeed. i have wondered about a few things. The Mother did not view the child. who did the identification? other than DNA isn't a positive identification by a family member necessary? Was the child struck with a motor vehicle, was she molested or just beaten and killed? for some unknown reason , there has been no information of any kind released. some kind of DNA should have shown up. is the DNA not in a data base? i thought all sex offenders had their DNA stored in a data base someplace.. just too many strange coincidences.
The 2 missing items could have been in that dumpster and gotten buried. i am not really sure what to think on this case just too strange

second thoughts on this. 10 days before Somer was abducted. there was another abduction attempt. What parent would let their children walk home? this does not make sense to me!!!!!

Ok, let me explain again. She is put in some kind of trash bin. Her stuff possibly too. She is picked up in the trash by means of a garbage truck. Then brought to a central location where she is dumped with the trash only to be scooped up and then brought to the GA land fill where she was found. That is the answer to two of your questions. She may have gotten separated from her things while being transfered to each location. As for getting hit by a car? Getting hit by a car would be less damage to her body then to have gone through two compactors.
I still feel those kids threw her stuff in a dumpster and walked off laughing. A baby sitter said that somer often was picked on. So that is how she may have gotten into the dumpster and couldnt get out before a garbage truck dumped it. Its just a theory. We dont have a case of murder as instead one of manslaughter.
