<![CDATA[Greater Lansing Ballet Company will be performing "Coppelia, the Girl with the Enamel Eyes", choreographed by Barbara Banasikowski Smith, the artistic director, on Saturday, May 11, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, May 12, at 2 p.m. at Pattengill Auditorium, Pattengill Middle School located at 626 Marshall St. in Lansing. There are 40 local dancers in Greater Lansing Ballet's Coppelia production. DeWitt and Bath performers include Mackenzie Callahan, Grace Chiaravalli, Peter Chiaravalli, and Sophia Chiaravalli. The main roles are danced by GLBC's principal dancers: Kailen Berry, dances the lead role of Swanhilde, who dresses as the doll Coppelia, and Jim McEwan dances the role of Franz. Kailen Berry and Jim McEwan have performed in numerous Greater Lansing Ballet Company's productions under the direction of Barbara Banasikowski Smith, including Nutcracker, Dracula, Warsaw Uprising, Firebird, Peter and The Wolf, and Cinderella, to name a few. The role of Dr. Coppelius is played by Bryce Berry, a graduate of MSU and Okemos native. "The Coppelia ballet is a classic and the GLBC is proud to showcase the talents of over 40 performers from our community," said Barbara Banasikowski Smith, the founding artistic director of GLBC. "The ballet company works really hard to put on this terrific performance and we invite everyone to celebrate with us and enjoy this beautiful ballet." The comic classical ballet in three acts was first choreographed by Arthur Saint-Leon to the music by Leo Delibes, which was first performed at the Paris Opera on May 25, 1870. This classic ballet is in repertoire in ballet companies all over the world. Tickets for adults are $18, seniors and students are $15 and children under age 12 are $8. Registrations will be accepted on race day only from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. for an additional fee. Entry fees and start times are as follows: * 5K Run/Walk, 7 p.m. Pre-registration through May 2, $25; Race day, $30 * Children's 1-mile Bulldog Run (12 and under), 7:40 p.m. Pre-registration through May 2, $9; Race day, $10 * Kids' 100-yard Bulldog Dash (six and under), 7:55 p.m. Pre-registration through May 2, $9; Race day, $10 The event is hosted by the Mason Public Schools Foundation and 100 percent of net proceeds benefit Mason Schools.
