SunPass or not, you still must pay toll

Q I mistakenly drove through a SunPass lane at the Commercial Boulevard exit of Florida's Turnpike , but I don't have SunPass.

1-If I send a 75cent check for a missed toll, it will cost the State about $35.00 to process it.

2-What good will it do to improve Lyons Rd if the idiots who set the lights remain incompetent. Traffic is not backed-up because of too many cars..those cars are sitting at lights instead of moving.

Concrete does not seem to be durable when the road moves. Up north you have frost heaves, in the south you have heat heaves. Concrete guarantees full time employment for the repair crews and a perpetual bumpy ride.

I probably wouldn't bother sending the state that 75 cents. It probably cost more to process the 75 cents than not sending the check. They won't come after you for accidently running the sunpass lane... once or twice. After about 3 you will get a notice in the mail, but it will be a warning not a bill. I think it may reset itself once a month for drivers. However, this isn't a practice you may want to adopt; if you get that first warning notice in the mail then be prepared to pay the next time. I knew someone that thought they could get away with running the toll and got a lovely bill for $2500 for running it over 25 times. It was pretty obvious he was doing it on purpose. Then he didn't pay and got pulled over for another traffic stop and got put in jail for the tolls. Not a good thing... he was in jail for almost a month until someone put up money for those tolls... and it wasn't me. I don't give money to stupid people.

Good point. There are engineering reasons behind asphalt vs. concrete, not just financial. They do create expansion joints in all concrete road sections however (badunk, badunk, badunk, badunk). And concrete is manufactured more pliable, bendable, and flexible today than it was just 10 years ago.
As for 95 in Miami, I remember that it seems like the only construction ever noticeable on the highway was when they widened it, and then a couple years ago when they scraped the surface to smooth out the slight warping that had occurred over the preceding 35 years.
When a semi flips over on the highway, it usually gouges out large chunks of the asphalt. The concrete seems to handle the impact much better. And for the occasional forest fires in the Central part of the State, the concrete would not be destroyed by the heat like the asphalt was.

I have seen a new "Toll Related Section" on I-95 in Miami on the Northbound side. What is going on. It appears that even a road that has been "Free" since I was born 34 years ago is now going to require $. What is wrong with our government? How can they agree to let this happen. They found funding for atleast the past 34 years. What is their excuse now? If they found funding for the past 34 years and have to resort to this now obviously something is very wrong and someone has to be held accountable for it.

They are going to try and toll the HOV lanes. They are hurting for money since ammendment 1 passed last year. So they are trying to tax us and toll us to death wherever they can.
