For one thing, it has been clearly stated that the previous issues with the Cambridge officer were not based on race. These situations, however, are very similar. Whereas the African-American community (including President Obama) made the previous issue into a racial matter, the Arab community in Oak Lawn has made this into a racial matter. Mr. Hanania's article is clearly one-sided; he only interviewed the owners of the Massad Market, and twisted actual events to an extreme in order to pull race into the matter. A more accurate account of these happenings was aired several times on FOX News, and more information can be found in the village records and police reports filed about this situation. I repeat, this is not a racial matter. Mr. Hanania specializes only in sensationalist journalism focused on race, and so he pulls that into every occurance.

My child takes lessons at the music center and I was just leaving with her at the time the fox van pulled up on Wednesday. I have talked with the owner on several occasions and she has never once said Mr. Hanania (or any other reporter, for that matter) triedto interview or contact her. In fact, she did not even know which reporter I was talking about when I called her about his articles, nor which paper. Therefore, this is clearly a matter of "he said", "she said", and no one will ever know for certain which is correct. Logically, it seems to me that with all the damages done to her property, I would think Ms. Bartell would have gladly welcomed an interview to tell her side, unless of course, her attorney has advised her otherwise.

If indeed Mr. Hanania interviewed the owners of the Express Mart, or the owner of the Music store, or any of the other businesses in the strip at all, why did he not clearly state that in any of his articles? It might have helped a bit had he done so, but quite frankly, because no such mention was made, I happen to share that opinion.

As a further addition to my previous comments, Mr. Hanania's article directly conflicts, on several points, with the police report that he links to in this article. I believe the racism is coming from the Arab community and has been fired further by Mr. Hanania's slanted views. Minorities can be racist too...

The Arabs see first hand from the black community if you are wrong, if you have no evidence and are unable to prove your point just cry racism. When they whine racism that is when you know they are at the end of their line. They will fight you tooth and nail if they are in the right, once they are proven wrong they will pull the race card. It won't be long before the Mexicans catch on and start crying racism when things don't go their way. It is becoming a way of life.

There is a difference between being racist and/or hateful, and just logically being angry because your business has been damaged and you have suffered loss because of someone else's negligence. According to comment #3 it appears that this may be something to consider as well. A bad neighbor is a bad neighbor. We had one move away once and everyone on the block cheered. Does that make me racist and hateful against whites too?

Furthermore, the reason why they were allowed to reopen was because of their race. They cried 'racism,' and the village buckled under the pressure. By normal standards, they would have been closed down permanently by now.

As far as I know, Oaklawn village didnt reopen the store because they had to. This is America guys and if the village was right, they wouldnt reopened the store until they say so But the fact is the village was wrong and they admitted by reopening the store. The store now has no problem with the health department of oaklawn and the best example of that is that the store is open.Religion has nothing to do with what happened, but racisim does. When a store being closed for 15 days without any convincing reason that is definitly not fair and when a police officer calls a kid with racist phrases like "go back to your country" " you are f*** arab", Dont tell me that is not racisim!! When a health inspector has the authority to put three people in jail because she said so, that is racisim! As a family friend of Massad family , I know how respectful they have been to their neighbours and what I know for sure that if my neighbours were bad and not respectful and they have been throwing garbage to my place, I would've simply picked up the phone and called the police and filed a report against them ! why that didnt happen ? Are they really that nice and they didnt say anything about it ? What happened is exacly the definition of racisim !!!

And for the record, the owners of the Massad Market dumped sewage into the alley behind their store (towards nearby houses), caused flooding in nearby businesses several times, used toxic cleaning chemicals in their freezers with food still in them (to be sold the next day), allowed for the storage of a food shipment near leaked sewage, etc. On top of this, they do not have proper insurance to cover the damages, meaning that the cost of these damages came straight out of the pockets of neighboring business owners. I stick by what I've said earlier.

Do you have a prove of that ? The health department itself had said nothing about this and didnt bring up the " toxics" and " garbage" issues. And plus, the store DOES HAS an insurance and if the neighbourse claimed that damage has been done to them , why they didnt call Oaklawn city ? Why this issue had not been included in the violations list? I take the responsibilty in saying that the violations list had the most silly things such as " the paper towel was on the sink and it was supposed to be hanged on the wall". If the toxic chemicals were used in cleaning , didnt the customers of the store realize that the food looks/smells/ or even taste weird?. What I know for sure that I willm never in my life put up with anything to hurt my business and make me lose money and I know for sure the store neighbours are just human and will think the exact way!!!!!!!

Are they really that nice and they didnt say anything about it ? What happened is exacly the definition of racisim !!! You Arabs have to realize this is not the old country. We have laws that have to be followed. Sanitation in this country is taken very seriously. I know in the Arab world you guys could care less about sanitation. The village is protecting the residents by enforcing simple basic sanitation laws. The village let the store re-open because the owners TOOK CARE OF THEIR VIOLATIONS. That is why. This is America and unlike your culture we follow laws and apply them evenly. In your country what do you think they would have done to a white male Christian had he did the same things this family had done, they would have taken them out to the dessert and no one would ever hear from them again but we all know white Christians would not be able to own a business in the first place in your country. Now that is racism. This is not about racism. Have you taken a good look around Oak Lawn lately and who owns a lot of the stores, it is Arabs. Why it is those Arabs have no problems and the village has very little contact with them? I will tell you they OBEY the LAWS. If the police officer made that statement which I highly doubt he is wrong. Once again how would the merchants been treated in your country had they disobey the authorities? I will tell you a lot worse then Oak Lawn treated them. If you know the Massads then why would they dump raw sewage? For the record the village has PICTURES of all the violations you claim do not or ever have existed. This is not about RACISM it is about an Arab business man who acted stupidly along with his family and was arrested. If this incident had occurred in your country and the Massads had acted the way they did towards the authorities they probably would have been sentenced to DEATH. So if you or any other Arab does not like it in this country you can always go back to the oppressive country you came from. That’s right you have it pretty good here. Next time you decide to post at least know all the facts before you make yourself and the Arab world look like fools crying racism. And by the way you are fooling no one you are one of the Massads your Ip address gave you away. Nice try!

The talles man-made tower is in Dubai( arabic country). The Church of the Holy Sepulchre and The Church of the Nativity are in Israel.Jewish musuem is in egypt. THIS IS NOT ABOUT RELIGION!!!. Residents of the arabic countries are human just like you and just like any other american, if they saw their food is dirty they wouldnt eat it.Arabic goverenments are not strong as the americans but still they have their authority and they know how to imply it on people in the right way. mistakes happen here in america and there in the arabic world. So you are saying that if i didn have a paper towel stand , I'll be sent to DEATH in the any arabic country ? WOW, that is really funny.I hope you get to go to one of the arabic countries and meet with the right people who really represent us as arabs. We are modern, educated, respectful and FOLLOW THE LAW. The issue again is not about religion or politics, we are talking about racisim. If you are saying that you doubt that the police officer is wrong then if I go to Walmart and start calling people names refers to their religion/color or even beliefs , Im gonna be right ?? Then why in high school if you call someone a name , you get kicked out from school? Have you ever been in any arabic country? I dont think so ! Let me tell you something, there is a country called palestine arabs beleive that is occupied by israel.Trust me , If what happened with the Massad's family happened in Israel, they would've sent the inspector to jail and reopened the store from the next day of its closure. If you have the power to do something, you have to know to use it correctly and inspector Galzing and the many of Oaklawn's police officer didnt use it in the right way ! In aug 17, Massads have to go to court because they have filed a case against the city of Oaklawn and the police officer. They are not going to court because they have " toxic" problems or anything else. Massad's are educated people. They have college degrees and they are modern people.I can post their birth certificate to prove that they were not born in a desert. and by the way, Im not fooling anyone. It happened to be that I live in the same area where they live. One of the massad's posted a comment already and I dont think they are scared to post their opinions and explain their side of the story.

I'm talking about the chemicals which burned a hole the neighboring business owner's larynx when she breathed the fumes coming from the Massad Market. And as far as the sewage dumped in the alley, there's plenty of pictures, so it doesn't matter whether or not it was mentioned in the reports.
