Novato rock concert raises no money for schools

Full story: Marin Independent Journal

Just two years ago, Novato's annual Rock'n Blues By The Lake fundraiser brought in more than $70,000 for the city's schools - enough to fully equip a computer lab at Novato High and take San Marin teachers on a school supply spending spree.

Will someone explain our local school money problems? I know two high school
teachers and they are making over 120k a year. I know a principal who drives a new porche and resides in 2 million dollar house, but every year I hear about there's not enough money
for school supplies?

What a scam. I 've been waiting for this. The non-profit model is so criminal...so immoral..so wrong.
Look, you know the bozos who ran this scam pay themselves first...doncha? So they made dough while using city services and being called do gooders...while the schools can take a hike.Scam from day one. What ever happened to the American way?
1. be great and make money
2. give what you feel like giving
I do not understand a person who goes to college in order to BEG for money from others by entertaining them. That is so lame! I said LAME!
I would NEVER trust such a fool.
Like Obama, a man who has NEVER fought a real case in court...not one!. Yet, in todays America, this non earner is the prez.??
Upside down is where we are.
No money for schools...GOOD! Those kids will be all the better for it. They will get to see these teachers have to actually WORK...maybe.
There has been NO NEED for new books at all.
When I was in school...we had NO BOOKS. We copied the lessons for our homework. The books were owned by the school and you were never allowed to take them home. My generation is head and shoulders SMARTER and STRONGER than these mamby pamby spoiled Marin BRATS.
Parents....hope you have a Big bundle to leave your brats because the mental and moral weakness they display will ensure their unemployability.
Put that in you pot pipe and "medicate yourselves". You are STEALING your kids lives...and sure as excrement..they will hate you for it. Change back to honesty...for them if not you.

n a word...unions. They will be broken. Their members will be blackballed. The anger is rising fast in every industry they control. They have driven business OUT to China. They have made your kid a moron whi thinks he is smart. You cannot squeeze them out like a zit...you have only ONE WAY to extricate them...WAR.
By allowing their domination...you have invited perpetual war. You did know that these arms makers are unionists...didn't you? You did know that Obama is all about "jobs, jobsd, jobs"..right? You voted for you kid to go to a death trap...a meat grinder. Oh yes you did! To the Dems...soldiering IS a job. When they draft your daughter they will consider that a success. They will wonder why YOU are not grateful. Your Karma has run over you dogma.

This event can possibly be profitable and benefit the schools every year, however the promoter needs to scale back his "vision"..and more.

This concert/event lasts all day. Rarely are there many people in attendance before 3pm. Instead of 10 acts scale it down to 2 or 3 and start it at 2pm instead of 10am.

Ticket prices are too high. Not just in this economy but any economy.$45 for adults should be $30 and kids should be $10.

Bottom line is if the economics don't work with reduced ticket prices and less acts.. then don't do the event. Why? Because it doesn't pencil out and School Fuel should not be in the business of showcasing a promoter's pet project.

Uh, where is this? Check your facts. No teacher at any public school in Marin makes over $120/yr or anything even close.

many people have been wondering about this for years, but afraid to raise the questions publicly.

has there ever been a transparent budget? how much money has gone where?
what kind of printing costs were reimbursed to the event founders?

everyone needs a little more critical thinking about what a "fundraiser" should do in terms of costs:donation ratio

The B-52s also played at the Marin Veterans several months earlier. Not many people want to pay to see them twice.

They also tend to book many of the same acts every year. Bring the prices down, get more of the local kids involved through Marin School of the Arts and such (and NOT just in the AM when most people aren't there) and put some real thought into which headliner would draw folks out to Stafford Lake.

ECONOMY? Metallica Just raised $200,000.00 for the rock n roll hall of fame in San Rafael.
B-52's? American Idol? Shame on them for taking 1 penny whats the point of a benefit?
now Everyone is a victim of the economy boohoo actually 75k for B52's is alot I would not have gone if it was free. Majority of people who attend concerts and buy music are males age 18-25? So blame the person(s) who booked the cruddy talent
And I thought the Messiah and his magic stimulus was going to save the world?

You don't actually know anything about me...or what I've done for the community.

You seem just a little bit defensive about a straightforward question about providing a transparent budget -- one that shows all the revenue brought in and all the expenses paid out...and to whom.

If the publicity promotes this as a fundraiser for NUSD people are entitled to ask for a full disclosure of costs and revenues without being attacked as fat. Sheesh.

There are a lot of dedicated VOLUNTEERS working to raise funds in this community who receive NO COMPENSATION for their time, effort, and in kind contributions.

The Rock n' Blues event has never been that great a contributor to all the schools. For the amount of time,$$ and volunteers that it cost a school site, it has never been worth it. One year we actually lost money. When they would advertise as "benefiting Novato Schools" it would make me crazy!! This is why our school site pulled out several years ago. We are far better off with our site fundraisers and dedicated parent volunteers working directly at the site.

Let's face it, the democrats are running the school system. They have been indoctrinating our children to the point that they think Obama is a good leader even though Obama is a man that hates this country.

If we taught our children the true history of our nation and not a indoctrinated version trumped up by the democrats, our schools future would be so much brighter, teachers would make more money, students would be smarter, etc, etc. Instead the democrats and liberals, and now radical communists (obama) want to use the school system and the kids to pursue a political reformation of our democracy.

Put the schools in charge by republicans and everything will turn around and again teachers will make good money and students will be much smarter.

The way to do this is to vote out democrats both nationally and locally. Also vote out people who hold offices for non-profits. People who work for non-profits always have an agenda.

Get rid of these people then we can run our schools the way they use to be run.

If you don't agree with me here, you will agree that since Clinton the schools have gone down hill. Bush couldn't get the democrats out of the school system. Only the people through their votes can do that.

Remember next time you vote, democrats have screwed up the schools and our children.
