Sounds like a better way to represent all the diferent areas of the town at first glance. But what will be the cost to taxpayers??Will my land taxes go up if this is done??I didn't see any answers to this in the article.More goverment usually = more $$$$ JMHO

I support Council Districts. As a resident of Huntington for over 31 years, I have seen Huntington grow to over 200,000 residents, becoming one of the most diverse communities on Long Island. It’s one of the characteristics that make Huntington so special.
I am not politically connected. But I work hard, pay my bills, get involved and do as much as I can as a parent and citizen to make Huntington a better place to live and raise a family. And I vote… in every election. I believe that Council Districts will finally give Huntington residents the opportunity to elect Council members from all of our neighborhoods.
We have so many dedicated people in Huntington. Many of them would make excellent town council members. The current at-large system discourages new faces who don’t have the financial means to run. Ever notice how few new names show up on the ballot? And how many candidates are running with more than one party’s endorsement? Council Districts would encourage the many caring and dedicated citizens of our town to run for town council, bringing the issues and knowledge of every neighborhood to our town board.
Council Districts would encourage council members to work together, for the good of our town. The idea that Council Districts would promote discord and ganging up on one district by others is not only based on fear, but has been proven to be unfounded in every town on Long Island and elsewhere that has moved to Council Districts from at-large systems.
So why does the opposition fear Council Districts? Misinformation and fear seem to be the only facts so far presented by opponents at forums and debates held all over town in the last 7 months.
I for one cannot understand why anyone wouldn’t want better representation on our town board. The only thing that changes with Council Districts is residency. Each council member would live in the community they represent.
The late Harvey Milk (member of the Board of Supervisors of San Francisco) argued that at-large districts did not truly represent the many individual areas of San Francisco, and that the move to council districts would elect council members ‘you meet in the grocery store, your neighbor, someone who cares about your community because they live in that community.’
This is not about pitting neighborhood against neighborhood. This is about all of us working for the common good of Huntington with council members who represent every part of Huntington.
Council Districts work. I urge everyone to vote YES on December 22.

Daily Horoscope for December 19

Libra

Don't try to do too much at once today or you'll disappear up you know what! You're all fingers and thumbs, accident-prone and things start breaking. It won't help if you're trying to concentrate at work and a certain chatterbox doesn't know when to shut up. Ask them to be quiet but try not to sound shrewish.
