Pothole Patching Problem Halts Road Work
Pothole patching has come to a halt across Allegheny County after officials say they ran into some problems.
They say the mix that is intended to prevent potholes is instead causing them.
PennDOT says this is the first time they've had a problem with the "tar and chip" coating.
Right now, they are investigating whether the mix was defective.
They do have a solution.
"We're putting down some limestone and sand to try and prevent the emulsion from coming through on those roadways," said PennDOT's Jim Struzzi. "We're monitoring the roadways where the sealcoat has already been applied and we're awaiting test results."
