And that separates it from any other mass transit system on the planet how?

Oh yeah, they all lose money. Get over it. There are bigger things than money.

Ya, I'll get over the government wasting my taxes. Tell you what, hold your breath til I get over it.

Juast because other mass-trans lose money, then it's ok? That begs the age old question asked by yo momma. "If you friends jumped off a cliff....?"

"Freeways" have been losing money for 50 years, not to mention killing thousands of Americans every year. And it only costs drivers about $10,000 a year on average to own and maintain a car in order be able to use "freeways" in the first place!

The Rail Runner started July 2006 (Phase I - ABQ to Sandoval/US550). Phase II -(Sandoval/US550 to SFe)started December 2008.

Have you complained about the money I-25's been losing for the past 50 years? I doubt it. This article proves the success of the railrunner. It's not meant to pay for itself just like none of the roads you drive on pay for themselves. I suppose people have to have something to complain about.

The new station is going to be a good stop at US599. The Santa Fe Brewing Company is about 1/2 mile away so you can go up there and see music without driving. The shows all end early up there too!

This may be one of the most ignorant statements I've ever read on here. Well, you and the other poster about interstates. The interstates don't maintain themselves monetarily? Are you out of your mind? How do you think all the commerce in this Country gets from point A to B? As for the Failrunner, it cost almost 3/4 of a BILLION dollars. Do the math. It was and is a huge fleecing of the taxpayers. Next will be the xxhit port down south.

So we should waste more money?

That's the point. Why find more things to waste money on?

Your right, its not like the "elected officials" aren't screwing the citizens of this country blind. Between them and all the freeloaders, there's a whole lot to complain about.

You losers keep calling it the Failrunner and it is approaching three years. And your's IS the most ignorant statement here. What is the income for the interstates and how much is spent on maintenance? Do you know?

It's Much More Interesting A Post If You Capitalize Every Word, Isn't It?

The RailRunner project needs to start making money back, since > 50% of the state's taxpayers live IN ONE CITY.

Not all public transit systems are an unjustifiable expense. As for highways losing money, the state gets to tax fuel, auto sales, parts sales, maintenance, etc.. So there's some balance there.

Toll booths exist on major roadways to recoup highway costs, it's just not used here...YET.

They need to charge a fee for the RailRunner. The El charges ~$2 and you can ride all around Chicago on it, why not charge people $2/day for the RailRunner? Still costs less than the gas required for commuting, and would at least get some of the ongoing costs balanced out.

I'd love to see the original business plan for the RailRunner. Anyone know where it is?

Those who outsource their thinking to talk radio are programmed to scream "Losing Money!" whenever rail transit is mentioned.

Yet they have no problem with the fact that the INTEREST ALONE on the $4B that your government is WASTING on the "Cash for Clunkers" program is enough to fund the operation of TEN Railrunner lines FOREVER.

How about $50B on the GM bailout?
