Police arrested Steven Jimenez, 18, of Bay Shore, after they said he drove drunk on the service road of Sunrise Highway, causing a crash that sent a Central Islip woman to the hospital.

At least 548 drivers were stopped - and seven arrested - at a Suffolk police Memorial Day sobriety checkpoint in Brentwood and nearby by a roving patrol, authorities said.

For the Santos family, the conviction Thursday of the woman who took the life of their loved one and that of her unborn child was bittersweet.

It was just before midnight on Sept. 7, 2007, and Suffolk County detectives were questioning Shantelle Scruggs about the fatal stabbing of Barbara Santos at a homeless shelter in North Bay Shore.
