I'd like to see the study from which are derived the statistics showing drug treatment works. Such programs are based on the flawed notion that there are things addicts don't know about drugs and drug use that if taught, will cause them to stop using. Addicts know more about drugs, drug use, and the damage they cause than most instructors (many of whom are addicts). Addicts change their behavior when they are ready (not to be confused with when they want). That readiness is usually a result of hitting bottom, losing everything or nearly everything (spouses, jobs, teeth, etc.). Drug programs may actually delay this catharsis as they provide housing, food, group hugs, non-judgmental therapy, and generally teach addicts they are victims of a disease. The best treatment is suffering the consequences of bad behavior.

Most of these inmates don't want to be reahabilitated and say these programas are a joke.

I love the wild assumptions made that "these treatments dont work" and in a way you are very correct they dont work on everyone, but they do work on some. And with that some they can be integrated back into society and stop costing Joe taxpayer boatloads of cash.
In all honesty the guards themselves need to be trimmed, with there insane unions & poor performance, they should be first to go, as well with there exorbitant salaries. |

Locking people up for drug possession is always a waste of money.

Recidivism will continue now faster than ever. Dont you understand as long as there is hot food, free medical care, plasma tv's, and pretty much an open air market of dope, courtesy of visitors, dirty staff, and sap workers, they will continue to come in droves, with a sign around their neck that says "feed me"!

Why don't they cut this welfare crap. I work in a welfare office and see the cheating and lying with no standards in place to catch the people. One person in maybe 15 or 20 tell the truth. I am not kidding. People on this useless program of welfare to work are the worse. They get gas cards for Arco and gift cards for Target, courtesy the State of California tax payers, to go to school and buy some clothes for job interviews. I don't get those things. They have their childcare paid for in a program called Kids and Care run through the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools. Some of the caretakers are the welfare recipients own relatives and parents. As long as they don't live together they can watch the kids and get paid for it. Once again, no standards in place to check if they live together or not. The taxpayer would fall over if they knew what really goes on.

The State is all ready out of business. they have 2million gang members on the streets rape rob murder steal sell drugs with no plans to do any thing and no room ithey convict them. The reason why the State doe not care about the victims is because they target some one else beside the State. The State of California lives for it employees and th chance to tax the residents. The mission the State is on is not the Mission it's people are on.

IIf Washington would consider people heath in this country and not abroad it would be a great help to the country and people that are illegal over here with out green cards and send them back to there country we could make it. We are not able to work or earn money in other countries but they can come over here and send or take it back home. AMERICA PLEASE GET A GRIP AND HELP OUR OWN.

Exactly, Tiffany. It's the decision to change, not the program(s), that make all the difference.

You are 100% right. I know someone who was in jail a couple of times years ago and next year will be graduating from the Claremont Colleges. It is all what a person wants to do. |
||||
Great for your mom!!! I wish her all the best and you too! |
