Imperial Irrigation District's new, natural gas power-generating plant near Niland is running smoothly, providing additional energy to meet peak demands during the hot summer months, officials said.

It is illegal to sell, use and possess any type of fireworks in Imperial County.

The District says the natural gas fired, combined cycled unit will generate 90 megawatts of energy and help boost their reliability.
