Cars bump between hotel and horse-drawn buggy

That's going be a tricky stretch of road till the state finishes fixing it. Take extra precaution.

Those horse and buggy's are a traffic hazard, my parents are in a rural area and even when you are going the speed limit you go around a turn or over a hill and BAM they are right there. If nothing else they need to start paying road taxes like everyone else!

The real problem: A bunch of goobers in a big hurry to go nowhere!!

Hey genius on sharp turns it's pretty much impossible to go more than 20 mph on and even that is pushing it, these buggy's don't even try to get over. You wouldn't ride a bike down the center of the road, so why do it in a buggy?

We have Amish down here in Southern Maryland and they are treated with the utmost respect. They even have signs to watch for them and a lane for them to ride in. So that's my 2 cents worth!

Like I said Slllllooooowww downnnnnnnn. Wait until it is safe to pass or sit tight and relax. I have no problem what so ever with the horse and buggies. They live here and will continue to live here so get over it. It isn't always about YOU.

Following too close. Failure to have vehicle under control. Dolts driving autos. Rear-end collisions are the fault of the drivers of the cars hitting the vehicle in front of them.

If a car was stopped to turn left, wouldn't that mean a car was coming in the opposite direction making it unsafe to pass in the 1st place

I'm pretty sure they do pay road taxes.

YES, they do pay road/state/federal/
income/wage/school/per capita and any other kinds of taxes. Being Amish does not exclude them from paying taxes.....as with all American citizens, the only thing that spares us from taxation is death!

Well, I think they might get out of property taxes... but I'm not sure, they have some sort of exception but it's not what people think.

I'm sorry, my mistake... they do not pay Social Security and public insurance taxes. But that is all.

Amish are not required to pay Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid taxes, unemployment taxes are paid for the ones who work off the farm such as construction work. Most if not all road tax comes from fuel taxes and what diesel fuel they use should be agriculturally exempt. What little bit of gasoline they use per year doesn't amount to much. They don't pay any tax on electricity because what electricity they use they produce by their own generators. They still have to pay the same taxes we do on our home and cell phones.

There are a lot of Amish that travel that road in horse and buggy and bicycles. People who live in that area and travel that road frequently should know that and slow down and be on the lookout.

I don't like their buggies (should get a nice car) but absolutely love their beards.

Is it true that ZZ Top came up with that bad name just so that they'd be guaranteed last in alphabetical order and therefore easy to find in a record store?

That's not the point, obviously I have to wait until it's clear and safe to pass. The point I was making is that on curvy hilly back roads even when you are doig the speed limit you come up on them very suddenly without warning sometimes and that is a hazard. What do you suggest we in motor vehicles do, drive 5-10 mph everywhere just in case a buggy is on the road?

Do what every other driver does...Be aware of your surroundings. Doesn't sound like you have hit a buggy yet, have ya?
