DEVELOPMENT: Wal-Mart buys land in Fort Mill

Wal-Mart Stores Inc., eager to capitalize on a population boom near the S.C. state line, has purchased 33 acres at U.S. 21 and Flint Hill Road in Fort Mill, S.C.
Property records indicate the Bentonville, Ark., chain paid about $6.3 million for the site next to the burgeoning Regent Park residential community.
A spokeswoman confirmed that Wal-Mart owns the property, but she said it doesn't expect to open a Supercenter there until late 2010.
Real estate experts say the site is large enough to accommodate a large retail store plus some shops. Read more
