I work in a NNPS and they want you to think there are gangs. Not so. Most are wimpy little 9th graders.

To: Teacher,
You make it evident that you, as an educator of our youth have no clue as to what goes on in or outside the walls of your school. We have removed several handguns from your so called wimpy 9th graders this year alone. Just in case you don't watch the news, we just caught the teen that murdered a man a week ago. The north area of Newport News from Oyster point to York County has 16 know gangs. The ages range from 6-63. The gang life has no color, religious, education, or economic boundaries. I challenge you to spend your weekend with us at north precinct sometime this month or next. I want you to see what a kid with a gun looks like. Ask to ride with watch II. You are sure to have a good time. I love my work as I am sure you do. But it's citizens like you that make me dread going to a jury trial. You live in a dream world. I would like to wake you up and let you see Newport News for what it is. A painted canvas with years of weathering and neglect. Our Chief is doing a superb job trying to correct our image. By posting this comment it shows you don't care about our city.

Nah...it's three or more in Virginia but there are other things that need to be in place too.:)

You people wouldn't know a gang if one lived next door. Don't you realize that a small city in Virginia does NOT have 1400 gangs? All Police agencies bring this up before election time to feel needed, get more doughnut funds, and votes to be re-elected.
Now, if you lived next door to the Genovese Crime Family, that would be 1 gang.

yes, I long for the days of organized crime. Our streets were safer and no hoods ever came to Weston.

There is truth in what you say. The Genovese followed rules - not necessarily mainstream rules but well known. The gangs of today have no protocal and no respect...they are kids who have raised themselves for the most part...and unfortunately kids usually don't do a good job of raising themselves.

To the other poster, if you don't think there is a gang problem in NN, you are sadly mistaken. Most are home grown but the "real" gangs from CA, NY, NJ and ElSalvador all are in NN. The "wannabes" carry weapons and shoot without asking questions - so take your pick.

If some of the officers of the N.N.P.D knew how to treat and talk to the people of N.News maybe they "could get better info on when, where, and what the gangs but are they acting fast enough no I think not N.N.P.D NEEDS TO GET BETTER PEOPLE SKILLS AND LEARN HOW TO INTEREACT WITH US..THE CITIZENS..

Gangs need money to survive. Legalize Drugs. People who use are getting them anyway and funding more crime. This is a replay of prohibition. Once they took the crime out of alcohol, people stopped killing people to get it. Put the drugs in the ABC store and use the taxes to help people that want help. Stop filling the jails with addicts and start working on real crime. We're not as smart as we pretend to be. Replaying prohibition and Vietnam.
