Newcomb teacher reads and writes to help change students' futures

Full story: Farmington Daily Times

Great story, until Haven managed to get his name mentioned. Everyone in Newcomb knows how Haven hates Purrachio, simply because of her race. Now he has the audacity to call her one of their "best teachers"? What a clown.

Purrachio has always done an outstanding job in helping kids learn; she is a Golden Apple Award winner. Nice job as always. Hopefully CCSD appreciates her the way the kids do.

Yeah Newcomb! They finally made the paper. Reporters always report them as a little spectacle. They were even unnoticed when the Elementary made AYP.
Good Job Ms. P!

Really "Ken"? Every time I talk to Mr. Haven, he speaks very highly of Ms. Puracchio, and race never enters into it. Sounds like you're the one who makes race an issue, not Glenn Haven.

This teacher will stay with the kids for a lifetime. I was so lucky to have a special 5th, & 12th grade teacher.

Nice job Ms.Purrachio

No, Phil/Ken, you should ask Mr. Haven, as he is the one into whose mouth you were putting words. But you seem to be someone who would rather skulk in the corners behind a fake name.

I know Ms. Purrachio is not a big fan of Mr. Haven, but she doesn't talk trash behind his back, and she does not make her issues with him into racial issues, unlike, say two other NHS teachers who are very prejudiced against Navajos, women, and all non-whites.

As I already said, Mr. Haven always speaks highly of Ms. Purrachio, in public and private. And the only prejudice I have ever seen him to have is against laziness. Too bad we can't say that for a lot of the Anglos in CCSD.

Excellent point! Very impressive program from the sounds of it.

To Ken especially, and others attempting to hijack this excellent example of teaching at its best...grow up and quit acting like first graders. Teacher...she looked at me funny! What a horrid example you are.

Now, now, I never said I agree with Ken. I'm just saying that before anyone puts words in anyone's mouths, lets go to the source, and ask Mrs. P.

My point was that "Ken" is putting words in Mr. Haven's mouth, not Ms. P's.

Ms. Purrachio is an excellent teacher and cares deeply about her students. I'm proud and thankful she was my teacher at Shiprock High. Newcomb is blessed to have her.

Know Them Both said: I know Ms. Purrachio is not a big fan of Mr. Haven, but she doesn't talk trash behind his back,

This has to be written by a woman because this is such a back handed compliment to Ms. Purrachio.
I think you are misguided. Although Haven thinks Purrachio is an excellent teacher, HE is NOT a fan of hers. Since you KNOW them both, I am sure that you know Ms. P got two masters and a TESOl endorsement all at the same time. The TESOL endorsement came from taking graudate credits in TESOL ,not undergraduate credits. She is a Level 3A and 3B teacher. She has a National Board Certificate. Okay Ms. Know them both--how has Haven used this tremendously intelligent woman and excellent teacher in a leadership capacity? He hasn't!!! Even you get to be the administrator for the day. Do you have a Masters in adminsitration? So until you know what you are talking about, I suggest that you do your brown nosing on your own time and don't use this venue to score more points with Haven.

Unlike you, I know Ms. P. I have been one of her closest friends and confidante for over 30 years. She CONTINUES to be the same idealistic teacher who is going to set the world on fire with educating children and spark that fire of love of language and literature into her students.

At the end of the day, ask Ms. Purrachio what kind of day she's had, and she always says, "Every day I work with students is a great day."

Daily Horoscope for December 29

Sagittarius

It's difficult to keep your mind on what you're doing today because it keeps wandering off in all directions. There won't be much you can do about this except to be aware of it, and preferably to postpone doing anything very complicated or important until you're less distracted and absent-minded. Unfortunately, you won't get very far with it at the moment.
