What do you love about Newark?

I grew up in Newark. I went to Hight School there and loved every second of it. There were so many ethnic neighborhoods and the culture was rich everywhere you went. The North sections were predominately Italian, the West section (particularly the Vailsburg section) was Irish, Polish and German. The Central section was a mix of African-Americans, German, Italian, Polish, Greek and Irish. The East section (known as the 'Ironbound' section) was mostly Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese. It was a wonderful place to grow up and drink-in the marvelous ethnicitiy Newark once was. However, most of that myriad of culture is gone now replaced by predominately Black and Puerto Rican influences, with the exception of a few, tiny pockets of Italians and Irish. Without that mix of cultures, Newark will never be what it once was.

More than just race has affected Newark also the fact teh city has turned predominantly Democrat. This means more of a government dependant society with increased crime and corruption.

The former inhabitant cultures were hard working immigrants who came with the idea that hard work would payoff in a better way of life for their prosperity. That will never be the case again in Newark, it has been lost forever. Sad, truly sad.
