“We'll open those lanes as early as we can.”
PATTON TOWNSHIP -- Interstate 99 between Bald Eagle and Skytop will not open as expected by Tuesday because signs for the temporary roadway and ramp at the Skytop section still need to be produced and installed, the state Department of Transportation said Friday.
PennDOT said it has set a new target date between Dec. 12 and Dec. 19 to open the northbound lanes of I-99 from Bald Eagle to Skytop and the southbound lanes from Port Matilda to Bald Eagle.

Most of I-99 to open by Dec. 4
“We ought to be in pretty good shape for the opening next month.”
PATTON TOWNSHIP -- State officials said Thursday they're on target to open most of Interstate 99 by Dec. 4 and that there's plenty of space left at the acid rock disposal site to take the rocks that remain to be moved.
'We're at the point where we're ready to go with the last stockpile of material,' Ben LaParne, assistant PennDOT district engineer for construction, told environmental regulators and other state officials during their regular biweekly meeting.
HRI Inc., of State College, general contractor of I-99's Skytop section, has completed construction of a temporary roadway that will link already paved sections of I-99 with U.S. Route 322 just east of the Skytop crest. Read more

DEP fines contractor for I-99 violations that led to creek pollution
“In this case our office decided not to pursue it because our usual stance when we find violations like that is that we give them a chance to fix it up and come into compliance. But DEP has the prerogative to pursue it themselves.”
State environmental regulators said Tuesday they have fined an Interstate 99 contractor $20,000 for sedimentation control violations in northern Blair County three years ago that led to pollution of South Bald Eagle Creek tributaries.
The Department of Environmental Protection fined A&L Inc. of Belle Vernon, Westmoreland County, for violating the Pennsylvania Clean Streams Law in late 2004 and early 2005 during excavation of Interstate 99 in Blair County, DEP Regional Director Robert Yowell said. Read more
