Hilltown hires aide to oversee parks
Hilltown Township -- looking to make better use of a growing park system -- has hired an assistant township manager to oversee parks and recreation programs.
Bill E. Wert III, the parks and recreation director in Newtown Township, will move north to Hilltown next month to start a job that will pay him a starting salary of $68,000, as well as the township's standard benefits package.
Wert, 35, of New Britain Township, will serve as an assistant to new Manager Christopher Christman, who began his $95,000-a-year job in March.

Bucks looks to fight fire with fire
Three of Bucks County's seven county-owned covered bridges are about to get a lot less vulnerable to arsonists.
County commissioners voted Wednesday spend $144,999 to replace the roofs of bridges in Tinicum, Solebury and Plumstead townships with fire-retardant cedar shingles.
When completed, four of seven county-owned covered bridges will have flame-resistant roofs, said county Special Projects Director Joe Bush.
Three other bridges-- in Tinicum, New Britain and Springfield townships -- probably will get the same type of shingles when money permits or their roofs need replacement, Bush said. Read more
