Jose A. Beltran, 23, was charged with first-degree robbery, first-degree forgery, second-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit robbery and larceny.

Milton Famania Jr., 33, is being held with bail set at $100,000 for the alleged attack.

As a boy, Mark Malkowski used a regular, right-handed rifle when he went to his target shooting club in Southington. But he had to switch the gun to his left side to use it.

Another of the several men involved in a Waterbury sex case involving a 15-year-old boy has been sentenced to prison.

A 23-year-old woman from New Britain was killed in a one-car crash on I-84 this morning, state police said.

Eva Roswell was thrown from the car, a 1991 Honda Accord, and was pronounced dead at the scene, state police said.

The driver and two other passengers were taken to area hospitals for minor injuries.

The crash was reported at 1:23 a.m. The Honda was going west on the highway east of Exit 44 when it veered out of control, jumped the median and landed on the east bound lanes, state police said.

Two women were killed and three others were injured after a crash early Friday morning on I-91 in Wethersfield.

Despite more troopers on the road and more sobriety checkpoints, this past 4th of July weekend was deadly, with at least seven fatalities on state and town roads, state police said.

'We had none last year,' state police spokesman Lt. J. Paul Vance said Monday. 'There's no rhyme or reason. We had extra people out there, our ticket numbers were up. We're doing everything we can do.'

Vance said police were unsure whether traffic would be heavier or lighter this holiday, given the high price of gasoline. But as it turned out, traffic volume was heavy throughout the weekend, which may have contributed to the high number of deadly accidents.
