Brooklyn, NY

where will these affordable houses be located?

ABSWER
Mount Arlington, NJ

Where the Mayor and council said they would not be. WHere the Mayor and council sat at a public meeting and told everyone in attendence that the project was on hold. What the heck Mayor Joe why is this happening without the town tax payers having any say. Just another reason NOT to vote in anyone currently seated on the council!!

The taxpayers of Netcong need to face some hard facts. The mayor and council do not care what the taxpayers think. The mayor and council think that everyone in town is stupid. They think the people are ignorant and uninformed. They do not care what you think until it is time to vote. They promise to be fair and forthcoming until they are back in office. It is not just this town or this level of government. It is a national problem. Sad times.

Well they could take 3 - 4 buildings from Netcong Heights and make that affordable housing since it is mostly welfare or those on assistance already. Less of a burden for taxpayers the landlord could get rid of many available apartments and ease his tax burden.

I love your idea. Netcong Heights is well on their way there anyway. Most renters there are on some form of assistance that all taxpayers pay for anyway. Bella Casa? I love it. It would become more like Dover!! I love your comment!

The problem is so ding dong back in the 70's passed a law that builders can go into any town and start building and tell them what they need, if the town does not come up with plans to build well then this builder has the choice to build whatever they choose, it is a bunch of crap but welcome to NJ where the people who have power in this state make up rules. Look at all those people in south Jersey who lost there homes becasue some builder came in and wanted to make million dollar homes. I think still to this day those homes have never sold, but he paid about 50k for there property and the town allowed it. Atleast we are not at that point yet. These laws suck for NJ fight the governor to change them.

The certifications are valid for 10 years from the municipality's date of petition and provide protection from builder's remedy lawsuits. Like that Builder's remedy lawsuits. This is the reason for all the problems in NJ. Just build, build, build, for what most of the people are moving to PA because of these problems.

affordable housing means less taxes for these homes. this means that the other taxpayers will have to pick up the slack. affordable housing means cheaper houses, less taxes, other people pay for their kids. netcong is already poor .... we should not have to subsidize.

Yes and they bring in that Habitat for Humanity. They are making homes for people and dirt low prices and then there will always be trouble there and using our utilities that now, we will have to pay more than we already to. It is ridiculous. If they can not afford NJ then go else where. We pay more than enough and should not have to support these people further than we do.

if you'd feel the same way if it was your son or daughter that couldn't afford to live here and would only be able to own their own home through affordable housing. Sometimes people in small towns (and I'm NOT saying the majority, so relax) don't realize how hard it can be to ever become homeowners when in fact they inherited their homes. C'mon, how many people in Netcong live in homes that were passed down to them?

There are far too many rental homes and apartments in Netcong already beyond the Heights. Home ownership is a key component in the stability and quality of a town. I have nothing against the renters personally, but usually they are not as vested in the community as homeowners because they may not have a sense of a town really being home. Of course, there are exceptions to this idea. It would be wonderful if there was some sort of incentive plan for the owners of many of the rented homes to sell them and create more homeowners in Netcong. If we must copmply with the affordable housing laws we must but I wonder what the ratio of homeoweners to renters would be in this town. Even if homeowners were the majority a high number of renters could have a negative impact on our community. Renters are more transient and not always concerned with the long-term issues in a town. At least Habitat for Humanity screens people and the people who receive HFH homes have a desire to be a homeowner. Going off topic - but I would like to see more done about the lack of stores spaces being rented in Netcong. That's an area where we desparately need renters. Our Netcong economy is hurting. If you want less taxes we need more businesses but lets fill the empty spots first before we build more!

I bought my house and had to move over 40 minutes away from my parents because I could not afford anything in the area because of when I bought. Things happen but it comes down to building on other peoples land to meet quotas which are only in NJ.
