"failure to yeild at a stop sign" !?!?!? How about vehicular homicide????? That is what Issacs should be charged with instead for being an ignorant jerk and cutting in front of the biker (as is done all the time by stupid drivers). My thoughts and prayers go out to Andrew's family.

I agree with "angry rider". I see too many people in this part of the world who do not understand the rules of the road. That stop sign is not a suggestion; it means STOP!!! These bikers are pretty easy to see.

If the driver of the truck/boat vehicle was traveling west on 173 at 4:30 pm he would've been facing the sun all the way from Navajo Lake. That may have been an issue in all of this. Then again, I've seen water trucks, semi's, and all other types of vehicles get to that intersection and not be able to stop completely because of the way 173 drops off so sharply onto 511. Maybe when the new truck route around Aztec is completed this will be different since it's supposed to join back up with 511 at this intersection. Sympathies to both sides of this.

I agree that most people in the area do not know what STOP means. They think that if they race to the stop sign they are allowed to go without stopping. However, I disagree with you about bikers are easy to see. They are not easy to see as they come out of nowhere. They are just as disrepectful to the rules of the road as anyone else. My condolesence to the family.

You know, everyone needs to understand the rules of driving before heading out on the roads! Whether you are a motorcyclist, a truck driver, or a bicyclist, ALL Drivers need to drive accordingly, that is why they have stop signs, speed limits (City codes), speed bumps, school zones, etc. and you get the picture, but those who don't abide by these rules end on the front page of the daily papers, in any case, one of the drivers has got to be at fault. We can all argue that MC drivers are ignorant fools, but MC drivers will say the same thing about us no matter how safe we think we drive, like some people are saying on this post, it is called Defensive driving. Even when coming to a stop light, do you notice how DAMN close these motorcyle drivers come up to the bumper, inches! And of course they will say the same thing about all other vehicles, stopping withing inches of the vehicle in front of them! Common Sense, DRIVERS!

Motorcycles are everywhere, Please crack your window in town in order to maybe hear what you might not see, keep your music down a little too will help. Look twice & maybe save a life.

YES!! Look twice, it won't hurt. Drivers of all types NEED to Stop @ a stop sign or stop light. Also DON'T merge into traffic. The shoulder lane is a pull over lane, not an extra traffic lane to where you can drive on & then MERGE into traffic!! If the other driver don't move over for you, don't get upset... wait somemore & go on your merry way.

On purpose or negligence, the biker is just as dead. I have to take evasive action every time I ride and I'm getting fed up. The failure to charge with vehicular homicide shows the pigs won't solve the problem. Time for a little ol' fashsioned road rage?

Please give me your address. I want to help you financially. Maybe others.....out of the goodness of their hearts, will donate as well. An education is not cheap, but it's worth it.

Freedom Lover, you sound like a biker. Road Rage? Do you think you can solve something with road rage especially if you are on a bike, someone crazier than yourself can just run you and your bike over! Its more like "Road Rash"!

Ok after looking at a map and realizing this accident did in fact take place in front of the Sportsman.. The Sun was NOT in the Trucks eyes, he was headed east at 4:30 pm... The sun would have been in the western sky not the eastern. AS for the motorcyclist, there is a possibility the sun may have effected him, although slightly.

What this all boils down to is.. Failure to see a motorcycle. This case has nothing to do with the case on Main. That one merely gives all riders, especially those on crotch rockets a bad name.

The rider in this case was fully prepared for riding, leathers, helmet, etc. Which leads me to believe he either assumed the truck saw him, or it was moving faster then it really was. He struck the middle of the pontoon boat. Those are not exactly the smallest of rigs. The truck driver may have also assumed the motorcycle was turning onto 173 as a good portion of the traffic out there tend to do.

In any case, the driver of the truck is legally at fault. He failed to obey a traffic devise and come to a complete stop. Thus.. From a legal stand point, yes, vehicular homicide it justifiable. The question now is the county DA willing to seek said charges.

You want him to.... EVERY SINGLE SOLITARY RIDER AND NON-RIDER WHO IS TIRED OF THIS NEEDS TO VISIT HIM/HER PERSONALLY....

Stop with the bashing on here.. Go to their office and DEMAND justice for this rider...

No he didnt "run" the stop sign. That intersection is a bad one anyway. Sounds like the biker was exceeding the speed limit....

Yes but alls I'm saying is maybe he didn't see the biker so he ran the stop sign.... I'm sure he didn't say "hey look there is a biker coming, I'm going to run this stop sign and see what damage I can do to him."

Alot of people slow down for stop signs, and if they don't see a cop, or anyone coming, they go right on thru them.

This is a clear case of an "ACCIDENT". No alcohol involved. The young man driving the truck will deal with this tragedy for the rest of his life. That is punishment in itself. You people calling for the DA to prosecute this kid on vehicular homicide charges would be an absolute waste of taxpayer money. The case would never stick. I feel for the family of the gentleman killed, but I also feel for this young man who has to live with the consequences.

Street Slum Slayer, the asshole may have to live with it the rest of his life, but at least he HAS a life, unlike the biker he killed. Does the fact that it's an "accident" make the biker any less dead? Some frickin' punishment. The DA ought to have HIS ass kicked for not charging with Vehicular Homicide.
