Mt. Hope maintains expansion north
“It's just going to take a little time”
Work is beginning on a second housing addition as Mount Hope continues its growth to the north across K-96.
Drover's Crossing, an 80-acre housing development about a quarter-mile north of K-96 on Burmac Road, is the latest part of a city plan to develop the highway corridor.
It's part of the city's move north across the four-lane highway toward the nearby Arkansas River, with homes and commercial projects on the drawing board.
Water and sewer line installations should be complete in a month, and home construction is expected to start in the spring, Mount Hope city clerk George Dick said. Read more

Pipeline explodes in Reno County
A gas pipeline explosion has been reported in Reno County, rattling windows in Haven and being heard at least as far as Halstead.
Reno County Sheriff Randy Henderson said the explosion occurred at Rayl Road and Arlington Road, north of K-96, between Mount Hope and Haven. No injuries have been reported.
A Haven city employee reported that the first explosion occurred at about 3:10 p.m., rattling windows in the small Reno County town.

Mount Hope teens still hospitalized after crash
Three Mount Hope teenagers remain hospitalized in Wichita after a driving mishap early Sunday morning.
Sedgwick County Sheriff's Capt. Bruce Morton said an 18-year-old man was driving on a rural road shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday when he decided to drive through a field to arrive more quickly at a passenger's home. The pickup went through a barbed wire fence, hit a culvert in a ditch, went airborne and struck a drainage culvert on K-96.
None of the three people in the 1994 Ford Ranger pickup was wearing a seat belt, Morton said, and all of them were transported to Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis Campus. Read more
