[paste]... I now have a highlighted copy of ... Mount Gretna Ordinance Number 122, section 11 stating that it is unlawful to play live music that disturbs the quiet of the Borough.... The Playhouse, the weekend music at the community building, the art show and the live music that is sometimes heard at The Jigger Shop all violate this ordinance. It was only at the request of Bill Care that I did not have my law firm issue injunctions against every single event in Mount Gretna for the rest of the year.... The law cannot be selectively enforced.[paste]
Perhaps someone ELSE will now decide to push to cite the universal violations in Mt. Gretna and cause a non-selective FULL enforcement of the stated music ordinance. Relieve yourself of any blame, and scrape your own shoulders clean. Blame three separate sets of neighbors for THEIR RUDENESS (??), while you are busy acting lawyerly with the veiled threats and the implied compassion (fake, of course), all while acting as though live music is in any way important for the birthday party of a 12 year old. When the MUSIC IS SILENCED in ALL of Mt. Gretna... at least until a new or revised ordinance is in place, you will not be the popular new neighbor of Mt. Gretna, but the prick neighbor who stirred the hornets nest of PEACE and QUIET. Good luck making your amends on this one. - Tort Spotter |

I do want to first say thank you for publishing publicly the letter that went to your neighbors. It gives the readers who read the response a little bit better understanding.
However, your ignorance is no excuse. I am not a member of your community, however frequent it quite often as we enjoy its serenity. But I am a member of a community somewhere. No matter if you are rich or poor, no matter if you have a legal team or not, you have no excuse, as a member of a community to attempt to plead ignorance after the fact because YOU did not do your research regarding the community in which you live. Simply because you have a copy of an ordinance NOW, does not obsolve you of your responsibility as a member of that community. Furthermore, I feel that the neighbors who did come and say something to you (in spite of HOW they approached you), were within their rights as members of that community. In addition, I feel that you owe your son and family an apology, as it was YOUR failure to abide by the ordinances of the community in which you live that brought the police to your son's party! Many in today's society fail to realize that we have an obligation to fulfill. Many don't care. You seem to be one of them. You also seem to be the kind of person who can not admit when they were in the wrong. And I am quite certain that there was more behind you not pursuing an injunction than a mere request of a single person. BTW - we had a live band at our son's graduation party! They were AWESOME! And, we were within our communities ordinances to do so.(We did our research.) |
Exactly! Neither should have written into the news. |

The real victim in all of this is that poor kid! Everyone is to blame--his parents for their ignorance and the neighbors who apparently have little tolerance (a valuable lifeskill).....What a pity.

So this is what two spoiled old people do when they have nothing else to complain about... boring

I have a feeling the crying kid is an exaggeration, unless the child is that sheltered that he really dwelled on the cops coming to his home in a peaceful manner, instead of being excited through his birthday party. Maybe the parents told the kid farce stories of why the cop was there or overworked the facts. Here is a tip to the family. Mext time instead of worrying about security, maybe just get a permit, notify local authorities of what you're doing, and I bet everything will work out better. I don't live in Gretna, i frequent the art show and I am quite confused as to when bands play or live loud music is going during the art show weekend, I never saw this take place in all my years of attending. It certainly isn't loud during the art show other than the conversations and bustling of patrons through the area. Did I miss something?

Regardless of if he new the ordinances or not the fact is he found out. The ordinance applies to EVERYONE. A priest in Washington just got sentenced to 10 days in prison for Church Bells been to loud. These people from Mt. Gretna must have relatives in Washington.
And some of you blame the guy for having resources and money. You are the same Red Blooded Americans crying about immigrants, gays and guns. It's called Capitalism you have the same opportunity this individual did, so stop your whining about "he has money". Good for him. We all want rights! We have the right to be treated fairly and there is an obvious discrepancy here were he can not make noise but noise that brings money into the community is aceptable. I could have torn any of your ridiculos post up but decide to just agree that both of these individuals have the right to peace, and happiness and that is why they can take it to court if they choose to. I'm sure is neighboors also have money, it's Mt. Gretna. |
Rich people crying about noise rates below zero on my 'Give-A-Shit-O-Meter'
Somebody else thought the same thing as I did. That is scary. As I started reading the story, I found myself thinking more and more that I was reading the words of a hippy liberal. When I finally got to the paragraph about "my law firm", it cemented my thoughts. Typical liberal, raises kids to be afraid of, and hate the police. And when things don't go their way, SUE, SUE, SUE!!! The only time I have spent in MT Gretna was in the woods killing animals, I think that I will just stick with the woods and the animals, because it sounds to me like the people are pompous asses. |
It makes me laugh that people think that just because you live in Gretna that you have to "have money". NOT!

Actually, I was kind of empathetic to the writer until he whipped out his attorney - totally destroys credibility.
That said, the noise ordinance in MG is necessary due to the close proximity of the properties, and I would have expected a good neighbor not only to complain nicely but also for a good neighbor to be mindful of the fact that the walls are cardboard and having a band on the porch isn't the best way to make friends. Also, did the writer have the brains to invite his neighbors first? And are the times referenced AM or PM? Finally, what kind of loser ships his kid off to Connecticut so "he can get away" from this place? |
Typical conservative...making everything a political issue that isn't. Is there any gray in your world, Retired Soldier? |
Very little gray in my world. However, I do reserve the right to change my opinion or view of things. Have some courage in your convictions, quit straddling the line waiting to see which side will be the most convenient to choose. Wake up and realize that you won't always please everybody with your point of view or opinion. Grow a spine and stand your ground on something, quit waffling on things out of ease or convenience. |
It seems to me there might be better things in life to complain about. It was a 12 year olds party, so what if there was a live band. At least you invited your neighbors. I'm sure you weren't partying until the wee wee hours of the morning. Gretna stuck ups find something else to bitch about!!!
You people don't have all the facts. First, only one party here is "rich." That'd be the guy making threats about what "my law firm" will do. Second, the band was really, really loud. You couldn't hear yourself talk, a block away.(May be why people had to "scream" -- to be heard!)
Good thing that the party started at 10:30 AM and not p.m. And no, the neighbors were not invited. Or notified. But it wasn't a big deal until a week later when we opened our mailboxes and found this jerk's obnoxious threat to sue.(Along with a whiny note from his wife, "Lady England...") So instead of annoying maybe 12 people in town, most of whom would have forgiven and forgotten within a month, they've now angered 1,000 (and got you News-posters all hopped up, too: Liberal! Conservative! Rich! Douchebags!). And now they insist on keeping it going here. It must suck to be them. I'm sure there's a nice town in Connecticut where they can go start over... |
How about weighing options and choosing the best route instead of following what someone else tells you that you have to do or believe.... That's all political parties are, communists in their own right. Think for your own damn self and make a decision based on clear fact and functionality. Forget about the liberal, conservative, social, or whatever the other ridiculous labels are that these far fetched propaganda filled radio and media outlets put into your feeble little mind. As for the Gretna residents and this party. Who cares!!! They were celebrating a birthday party for their child. They choose to do it through music and friends, big deal. There is a lot more noise brought by the theater and other events in Gretna than a person having a private shindig. If the person decides to form a suit against Gretna for disobeying their own ordinance then so be it. Would I do it...No, but he makes his point very clear. People need to find something else to do other than whine and complain about every little thing they have no involvement with. Sounds to me like jealousy... |
