Northwest Missouri: Crew work to restore power, Guard troop making welfare checks

The rain has stopped, but tree limbs are still falling in ice-covered northwest Missouri.
Ice up to an inch thick caused trees and electric lines to snap, knocking out power to thousands of customers in St. Joseph and Maryville. The towns of Tarkio, Oregon, Craig, Mound City, Fairfax, Savannah, Kellogg and King City are also without power, said Al Butkus, a spokesman for Aquila Inc.
About 100 people spent Tuesday night at shelters in Maryville, said Keith Wood, Public Safety Director. But that number could go up even though some power is being restored. Read more
