Fire claims life of Harvard resident, son sought by authorities
A house fire in Harvard claimed the life of 88-year-old Linda Strunk last week. She died as a result of her burns at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle July 9.
Her husband, Millard, who was outside the residence on Quartz Creek Road feeding the couple's when the blaze began on the back porch, suffered minor injuries while trying to assist his wife, who apparently was unable to unlatch the front door.
The home and several outbuildings were destroyed in the fire.
The cause of the fire is deemed suspicious, and authorities are now searching for the couple's son, Dallas, who has been deemed a person of interest.

Separate fires damage one rural home, destroy another
Fire destroyed a home near Harvard, sending flames into the air that could be seen for miles and sent an 88 year old woman to the hospital Tuesday, July 8.
The blaze started about 7 p.m. and by the time firefighters from the Potlatch Rural Fire District arrived at the residence on Quartz Creek Road, owned by Millard and Linda Strunk, it was fully engulfed.
Mrs. Strunk was in the house and apparently could not get the front door open to escape. She was taken to Gritman Medical Center and later transfered to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle for treatment of burns. Her husband was outside at the time of the fire and recieved treatment at the scene for minor injuries..

It's become a summer tradition: those little railcars plying the historic WI&M Railway tracks, delighting young and old alike. For the fourth year in a row, the speeders will return to Potlatch to offer rides to the public. Mark July 12 as the date and be there from 9 am to 5 pm to enjoy a ride to either Princeton or Kennedy Ford. Bluegrass at the Boxcar will again be part of the day's activities, with both the Junior Jammers and the Two Dollar Bills performing. It's a full day of family fun, with refreshments and lunch also available. Tyler "Mo Bandy" Renz will be serving up the Saturday evening Extra Fare Barbeque at $8 a ticket for adults and $6 for kids 12 and under.

Fredrickson recieves 5-20 years for murder
Eighteen year old Zachary Fredrickson was handed a sentence of 5-20 years in prison for the June 30, 2007 shooting death of Jeremiah Johnson, 23, by Second District Court Judge John Stegner June 23.
The Troy teen was originally charged with first degree murder, but pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of second degree murder in a last minute deal with prosecutors. In that agreement, Latah County Prosecutor Bill Thompson agreed not to seek a sentence longer than 20 years.
Fredrickson shot Johnson in the head with a .22 caliber rifle during an alcohol-fueled rage at a party in Troy. He then put the gun under his chin and shot himself in a suicide attempt.
