Flood wipes out approach to Gila Cliff Dwellings
“We had huge high water, with debris and turbulence it wiped out the north approach. ... The river came up very quickly, very strongly”
State Transportation Department crews on Tuesday were assessing flood damage that closed part of N.M. 15 and isolated Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument, forcing it to shut down. via Las Cruces Sun-News

You would think that if this is reoccurring issue, The gov't would fix the bridge to handle such flooding events and maybe consider developing an alternate route for safety and rescue efforts. But i know, thats too complicated for our Gov't. Lets waste more money in Iraq instead!

Do you know????...
...was it the high bridge at the bottom of the Grapevine camp site or further up closer to the end of the road? Two branches of the Gila converge under the high bridge @ Grapevine. We still call the stretch of road decending to Grapevine as "smoking brakes hill". |
