I first heard word of the fire raging in the Black Forest area as I was working my shift in the warehouse at Synthes in Monument, CO.

Residents returning to the neighborhoods they were driven from just days ago by Colorado's most destructive wildfire ever are seeing firsthand the path of destruction left behind by the flames.

The wildfire that forced thousands from their Black Forest homes was being tamed Saturday - generating good news for hundreds whose houses survived the most destructive blaze in Colorado history.

Thousands of El Paso County residents remain displaced by the Black Forest fire, and hundreds of people are stepping up to help them.

Fire danger will still be high today, but less than recent days. Gusty and erratic wind due to afternoon t-storms may cause issues for fire fighting efforts.

The spread of the Black Forest fire has impacted the mail delivery to more than 10,300 addresses for Friday, June 14. The Elbert Post Office has been evacuated.

Though most of the Black Forest Fire has remained in El Paso County , it's begun to cross city lines.

The parolee blamed for killing corrections chief Tom Clements was working from a hit list that also named parole director Tim Hand and two other corrections employees, Hand said Thursday.

This morning the El Paso County Sheriff Maketa, , reported that 360 homes are now totally lost .

"People don't understand how serious it gets or how the winds change," said John Robertson, a 66-year-old former firefighter who left his Black Forest home in a mobile home after being put on pre-evacuation notice.

That's how Morgan Pace felt as she drove past a large plume of smoke near her home in Monument, Colorado, which is about 20 miles north of Colorado Springs.
