Man Who Died in Montebello Police Custody Identified
A man who died while in police custody last Friday has been identified as Guillermo Pablo Cedano, 34, of Montebello, Los Angeles County Coroner Lt. Fred Corral said. The cause of death is still under investigation.
Cedano called the police around midnight on Friday requesting medical help at his house on the 1000 block of Carob Way, officials said. It is unclear what type of medical problem he was experiencing. Cedano was tased by one police officer an unknown amount of times, Lt. Holly Francisco of Los Angeles County Sheriff's Homicide Bureau said. Cedano was unarmed at the time of the incident and police did not use batons to subdue him.
"He was hostile. They restrained him. While restrained, he became unconscious," he said. An officer suffered a fractured right wrist during the scuffle and was released from the hospital that same day. No other injuries were reported, Lt. Francisco said. Cedano had been arrested four different times in the past for battery on a peace officer, obstructing justice, being under the influence, and disturbing the peace, Francisco said.
