Balloon artist again floats to top of Guinness Records
When Montgomery County balloon artist John Cassidy broke the world record for balloon sculpting last November by inflating and twisting 747 balloons in an hour, he earned the right to be considered for Guinness World Records. But, through previous experience, Cassidy knew breaking the record doesn't automatically get you into the book.
Although the pile of balloons at Cassidy's feet easily surpassed the previous record of 722, the record isn't considered official until Guinness World Records verifies it, a painstaking process that can take as long as six months, according to Cassidy's wife, Jennifer. Read more

A twisted tale of inflated hopes, breathless anticipation
It took just a little more than 4 seconds for John Cassidy to grab a balloon, stretch it, inflate it, tie it and twist it into a sculpture.
The Montgomery County magician stretched, inflated, tied and twisted, over and over, until he had a pile of 747 colorful balloon sculptures at his feet at the end of an hour Wednesday.
That was enough to give the Mont Clare man the unofficial world record, once again, for balloon sculpting.
Cassidy, 46, was demonstrating healthy lung power and kicking off today's Great American Smokeout, when smokers are urged to give up their cigarettes for 24 hours. Read more
