A Faggot Reporter Asks Four Anti- Gay Bigots a Very Basic Question

Full story: The Stranger

We talked to them over the phone. On August 31, the Washington Secretary of State's office announced that Christian extremists had gathered enough signatures to put Referendum 71 on the November ballot.

Once again the comments by the local readers are very poignant. Fortunately most see the hypocrisy and seem to possess a good amount of information and education about the issues.
Perhaps slowly, surely, steadily... the fight for rights will be won.
Thanks, again, Rick.

It seems to me after reading the transcripts of the 4 calls that people in Washington are moronic heterosexists that will sign anything as long as it is against gays even if they don't read or understand what they are signing.

Can we just cut the state loose to drift in the Pacific?

The sad part of this is they are so out of touch with their own reality they cannot see what hypocrites they are. That they do hate us and are using any means they can to show that hate without being able to admit the hate..“Love the sinner hate the sin.” Is so out of touch with reality it is beyond belief. We are homosexual because we engage in homosexual love. If we did not engage in homosexual love we would not be homosexual. I am 81 and my boyfriend is 82 we are both impotent. This in no way interferes with our homosexual love for each other. There is and can never be a separation between the love and the lovers.

The religionist mantra of "love the sinner, hate the sin" is nothing but a big lie. They most certainly do hate the "sinner" and will do anything and everything to punish those they oppose. They lie, they deceive, they cheat.

I only have pity for people like that. Imagine living a life where you need to put others down to feel better about yourself. It can't be a very rewarding life and it's must be pretty lonely. Many of their friends have matured and moved on and this poster is stuck in world they have to view with the maturity level of a 3rd grader.

Rational thought and making one's own decisions are actions that are not encouraged by commercial religion. These people generally think and do what they are told to. The second person who circulated the petition without knowing what is was about is a prime example. Most are too unsophisticated to actually pull off hating the sin but loving the sinner which is seen time and again by gays being rejected by their families, the very people one should be able to count on for support.

One of the contributors said:

"I don't hate 'em. Actually, they are the ones overturning police cars. When Harvey Milk was shot, the gay people in San Francisco just went crazy. They smashed in store windows and turned over cars. They tried to light fires"

Okay, aside from the fact that I missed the memo where it stated shooting and killing a person was no longer violence, this guy has a point. I mean, gays are crazy people. When violence is committed towards their kind, they, get this, they actually get angry! I know, I know! Crazy right? Gays actually don't like to be bullied! I know. I just don't understand it either.

And this "love the sinner, hate the sin" is one of the biggest jokes of Christianity. What is their "love" for the sinner? Is it Anita Bryant calling them "human garbage" or Jerry Falwell calling them "brute beasts"? Is it the WBC with their "F*gs die, God laughs" posters?

This hits the nail on the head. People who think like that are not worth efforts at persuasion. It would be like trying to teach a pig to sing - it wastes your time, and just annoys the pig. It's enough to know that they'll vote for anything anti-gay, even if they don't consider themselves anti-gay. Trying to understand their thought process doesn't really yield any insights, apart from the observation that we shouldn't underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that all or most people in the state of Washington are represented by these four people. It is, however, very chilling to hear that these were the first four people called, not just a matter of them pulling out the worst of the worst from those opposing the domestic partnership law.

In a nutshell, it's the difference between two kinds of mothers: One who loves her child unconditionally, providing guidance but ultimately respecting the adult child's independence and accepting that they must become responsible for themselves. The other mother's "love" is all about control, "loving" so much that they can't stand to see their child fail, and defining as failure anything that doesn't conform to the mother's viewpoint, thus robbing the child of independence and the opportunity to mature into a responsible adult.

Case in point, my mother was telling me last night about a friend of hers who was pressuring her adult daughter to have sterilization surgery, as in "come up here and we'll get it taken care of". No respect for her daughter's independence, her daughter's marriage, or her daughter's husband. All about the mother's view that 3 kids is enough for her daughter, and the 'danger' that the daughter might not conform to the mother's wishes.

This is how the the anti-gays see us - as naughty children who require their "loving" efforts at "correction" to bring us into conformity with their personal beliefs and worldview - not as mature adults who are their equals and deserve respect for our own differing beliefs and independent lives.

I also do not believe in the "love the sinner, hate the sin" mantra. In practical application, it's more like "hate the sin, and be so indifferent to the alleged sinner that the hateful outcome of your actions toward their perceived sin lack any appearance of being loving".

I can do without so-called Christian love, quite frankly.

Amazing. Truly amazing that there are still people in this country that are so pathetically under-educated. Where did these pollees come from anyway? Were they rejects from Jay Leno's "Walk of Shame?"

Actually, Judaism has a long tradition of questioning things. It only takes one Jew to start an argument - it's the Tevye syndrome (The Good Book says ... on the other hand...).

The Reform movement is very acceptant of LGBT people and questioning why we believe what we believe, and the Conservatives are starting to come along that path too.

Even the Orthodox are VERY QUIETLY and VERY DISCREETLY asking questions about LGBT people, since the production of the film "Trembling Before G-d".

We in the LGBT community deplore the use of stereotypes and blanket terms, it's only fair that we not respond by using them against others.

Daily Horoscope for December 22

Gemini

If you're currently keeping something secret it will really start to prey on your mind today and you'll worry about blurting it out at the wrong moment. It's one of those days in which you're absent-minded and completely wrapped up in your own thoughts. As a result, it will be hard to concentrate on anything else and this won't go down well in certain quarters.
