Food stamps are putting supper on the table for more South Dakota families, and the usage has soared in Sioux Falls, home of the state's most robust economy.

The U.S. Small Business Administration says small, non-farm businesses in 35 South Dakota counties now can apply for low-interest disaster loans.

U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack has issued a disaster declaration that makes many farmers and ranchers in 25 South Dakota counties eligible for federal emergency loans and other assistance.

PIERRE - A state official says at least a half dozen South Dakota counties already have passed resolutions seeking disaster declarations because of damage caused by grasshoppers.
