A judge on Tuesday ordered a 14-year-old murder suspect to undergo a mental health evaluation to determine whether he is competent to stand trial for the slaying of a 16-year-old boy earlier this year.

A 29-year-old man was being held today in county jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon in connection with a stabbing Friday evening in Meiners Oaks, the Sheriff's Department said.

In an effort to break down the barriers in communication threatening to divide the youths of the Ojai Valley after Seth Scarminach, 16, was stabbed to death at a Meiners Oaks party in May, the Ojai Valley Youth Foundation embarked on a project to bridge the gulf.

No injuries were reported when a school bus collided with a van Friday afternoon in Meiners Oaks.
