Actually, Capetillo, what we have here (which has been proven by arrests) are gangbangers who are 22 to 27 years old coming up to the Medford area to recruit and initiate young Hispanic males into their gangs so they can expand their memberships. When some gangbangers beat up a man in the food court at the mall and in the parking lot of a grocery store, our gang division of the police was able to round them up and arrest them, including the 20-something guys from California that were doing the recruiting. There have also been a few instances where the young men who were originally recruited tried to get out of the gang and got badly beaten and stabbed. So they are NOT "wannabes," but victims of actual, vicious long-term gangbangers who recruited them.

I think, as a society, we have to ask what makes gangs so appealing to them? If we can determine that, we might be able to fight them by taking away their base for recruitment. The gangs require recruits to "earn" their way into the gang by beating or even killing someone. The gangs recruit young girls by requiring them to submit to gang rapes. Why do these children (and most are 13 to 16 years when recruited) submit themselves to this kind of debasement? Something in the gangs must sound awfully attractive to them, more attractive than completing school or living a good life, so they just throw away their opportunities before they are old enough to benefit from them. Very sad.

we already know what they like about gangs its the money,power,respect form there people
