McIntyre church burns to the ground
The state fire marshal's office will try to determine what sparked a fire that destroyed the McIntyre Baptist Church early this morning.
A passerby alerted authorities about the blaze shortly before 2:30 a.m. but firefighters could not save the 105-year-old brick building at the corner of Hill Street and U.S. 441, said Sgt. Bernard Hughes of the McIntyre Police Department.
'The only thing standing is the face of the church,' Hughes said. 'It's a total loss.'
Firefighters are still on the scene attending to hot spots in the church which is home to about 80 members, Hughes said. Read more
