Mayesville to honor Mary McLeod-Bethune this weekend
"She was born on a Saturday, July 10, 1875, the 15th of 17 children to former slaves, in a one room wooden house in Mayesville, South Carolina.
The annual Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Birthday Celebration is slated to begin at 6 p.m. on Friday with a walkathon as part of this year's theme: health and fitness.
For the first time, the town of Mayesville's annual celebration of the life of its most famous resident, Mary McLeod Bethune, will feature a walkathon.
